    Dear SWSGA,

I am writing you to THANK YOU for the amazing SWSGA Steel Guitar Show this past week in Mesa.

As a beginner on PSG (I am 34 years old, and have been playing for about a year), this was my first PSG show. My teacher, John McClung, (Professor Twang), has been urging us students to go and boy, was he right.

First of all, it was heavenly to walk through the lobby and hear the indelible sound of the Steel Guitar coming at me from all directions. The players were amazing; just unbelievable musicians, playing blues, jazz, movie soundtracks, and a healthy dose of classic country, on the main stage, and in the vendor rooms. The band itself was a treat, some of the best musicians I have ever seen. The vendors were great: wonderful products, with helpful and interested people to show you around and answer your questions. Come on, where else do you get to do a Telonics Amp shootout, or try different Infinity, Fessenden, or Mullen guitars side by side? The seminars alone were worth the price of admission for the entire show. Kevin Ryan and Travis Toy, two incredible pickers, left me with enough practice material for years to come. Jody Cameron's class was outstanding. His unique approach to C6 chords on E9 opened up an entire world, and his open, inclusive approach to teaching invited the whole class to come along on this new journey. I kicked myself for missing the Larry Toliver and Steve Palousek seminar after hearing them play on Saturday!

Most of all though, it was the people that made this event so amazing. Everyone, from the event organizers, the attendees, to the very heroes we watched on stage, were friendly and open. Everyone was very willing to talk shop, share some tricks and insights, and give playing advice to anyone who asked. It was like one big extended family, one that welcomed you to enjoy this incredible instrument with them. To learn, laugh, and have fun along the way.

I did hear some things did not go as planned. I want to say that, in my opinion, this did not matter one bit. I enjoyed the room downstairs, every steel player was as good as the next one, and what other place can you hear this beautiful sound coming from all directions?

Again, thank you all for putting this show on. It must have been a lot of work, but it is greatly appreciated!

    See you next year,

    Hay Joosten

    Hay,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your letter. A lot of time and talent goes into each one of these shows. So much talent, that it is almost impossible to acknowledge everyone. It is a labor of love for each of us in our own way. Your kind words mean a lot to all of those involved and a validations for their efforts.

It was great to have met you at the show we look forward to seeing you at the show in 2018!
