On March 16 the Seattle Symphony held a reception at New York City’s PACE Gallery to

celebrate the orchestra’s May 6 appearance at Carnegie Hall. The performance, part of

the Spring For Music festival, included the New York premiere of John Luther Adams’

Pulitzer Prize–winning composition, Become Ocean. The piece was commissioned by

the Seattle Symphony with the generous support of Brian and Lynn Grant, and was

premiered by the orchestra in June 2013.

The PACE Gallery event was also an opportunity for Music Director Ludovic Morlot

and Executive Director Simon Woods to talk about the Symphony’s latest venture: its

own record label. The first three releases on Seattle Symphony Media feature works

by French and American composers, a nod to the dynamic, flourishing collaboration

between the Seattle Symphony and Morlot, now in his third season as Music Director.
