INSTALLATION

NOTE: Before installing the drive, the previous PCTEL supplied driver for the EX must

be uninstalled.

Uninstall the PLX (NetChip) Driver.NOTE: This step is needed ONLY if the NetChip driver was previously installed.

1. Connect device and make sure it is detected as the "PCTEL Ex Scanner"under device manager.

2. Right click on this "PCTEL Ex Scanner" item in Device Manager and selectuninstall item from drop down menu.

3. Click the "Ok" button on a window that confirms the driver uninstallation.

4. From the WINDOWS\INF folder delete the oemXX.inf and oemXX.pnf files(where XX is the number that was assigned by OS).

5. To find correct inf and pnf, make search in the WINDOWS\INF folder andfind inf that has text VID_0525&PID_A8A0.

6. From the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS folder delete the NcBulk.sysand NcGen.sys.

Install the USB Virtual Comm Port DriverPlease follow the steps to install the virtual comm. port driver

1. To install driver a user must have administrative rights to its PC, and the"Take ownership of files or other objects" policy has to be enabled for thisuser on this PC

2. Copy the folder /Virtual Comm Port to your local drive before installingthe driver, and run the installation from the hard drive

Right click on the Virtual Comm Port folder and select Properties

Unchecked the Read-only attributes and click OK

Select Apply changes to this folder, subfolder and files as belowand click OK

3. Plug in your device and wait for the "Found New Hardware" wizard.

4. Do not select anything in the "Found New Hardware" wizard.

5. Browse to Virtual Comm Port directory where all the installation files hasbeen copied.

6. Double click on install_as_serial.bat file.

7. Following message window (or similar window) will appear (Note: it mayappear several times):

8. Click Continue Anyway on the message window when it appears.

9. Remember do not select anything from Found New Hardware" wizard, it

will automatically disappear.

Note: The installation of the driver may report as bellow:

However, if a PCTEL ACM Communication Port appears without yellow question

mark in the Device Manager, you may ignore the message.

Un-Installation of the Virtual Comm Port Driver (if ever needed)

1. If it is necessary to remove the Virtual Comm Port driver, browse to

\Virtual Comm Port.2. Double-click the uninstall_as_serial.bat file and the DOS window will

appear and then go away on its own.3. This completes the un-installation of the driver.
