The shopping centres manage- ment has apparently since decided not to extend the Departments’ lease until they come to the party. “Our doors are open for negotiations,” said the official. Currently the department has apparently managed to pay R20 000 of the outstanding amount of R100 000. When asked why they could not allow the labour offices to operate while eng- aging on the matter, the officer said, “For the fact that we are running a business, we have to treat all our customers equally.” The provincial chief director for the Labour Department, Kenny Fick, said their hands are tied. “We failed to secure negotiations with the Department of Public Works to pay the lease. We have organised a mobile unit outside the building and some of the clients are being referred to the Vander- bijlpark and Vereeniging branches It’s true that the offices were locked by the landlord as we don’t have formal lease agreement,” said Fick. VANDERBIJLPARK. - The Wilson familyhas run out of patience. They have apparentlybeen waiting to be compensated by the Emfu-leni Local Municipality. This is after theirtwins, Lebo and Lebohang (8) died tragicallywhen they drowned in a ditch full of rainwateron February 3, 2011. Jan Wilson, father ofthe deceased, says that he cannot rememberthe names of themunicipal officials who tookthe blame and offered to bury their children. The municipality had allegedly left the ditchopen as they dug holes, using the soil to up-grade roads. Immediately after the funeral, the couple were allegedly promised somekind of compensation. However, the family

could not explain what kind of compensationthey were promised and by which officialfrom the municipality. Wilson said after thefuneral, they decided tomove to Sonderwater.Every time we went to the office of Emfulenithey sent us to the Social Development Servi-ces offices in Houtkop. The former EmfuleniMMC, Cllr Dimakatso Madisa, has invitedthe family to the office of the executivemayorGretha Hlongwane to discuss the issue. Sheapologised to the family as they were misledand taken to different offices for information.Themunicipality conducted the funeral servi-ces at its own cost. “The municipality will ne-ver ignore the residents when they are in cri-sis,” said Madisa.

SHARPEVILLE. - Electricity remains a pro-blem in our communities especially in ruralareas where poverty seems to be creeping indaily. This comes after residents of TshepisoSouth were promised electricity three yearsago but are still using Paraffin, gas and cand-les. On Wednesday evening communitymembers took to the streets demanding thattheir councillor come forward to explain tothem why the process is delayed. Accordingto the residents a transformer was intalled lastyear. However, nothing has happened. As their pleas had fallen on deaf ears, they

continued to march, demanding an answerfrom their councillor. Matebello Fuka says,“We have been without electricity for a verylong time. Our children and even older peopleare burning paraffin stoves.”

The transformer installed last year hasbrought nothing but stress to them as they ha-ve to take turns watching over it at night toprevent thugs from stealing it. Thugs have ap-parently tried several times to steal it withoutany success. Community members claim thattheir councillor failed to meet their demandsas they questioned her about the electricitysaga. According to them she referred them tothe municipality to enquire and told them nottomention her namewhen they did. They alsoclaim that she told them to write a memoran-dum to the municipality. They did as she saidbut according to them she started playing ‘hi-de-and-seek’ with them instead of givingstraight answers. When Sedibeng Ster contacted Ward 22

Councillor Sibongile Phume, she refused tocomment and hung up.

One of my favourite seasons (and I am suremany others would agree with me) has arri-ved much to the revulsion of those that hatethe cold.I could not have waited much longer for sea-sons to change as to me it is time for retro-spection.While all of us will be unpacking those boxeswith coats and jerseys that smell like mothballs, I will be focusing on new plans in life.Planning throws the searchlight on humanwisdom, experience, and ingenuity this dis-pels the darkness of the future. It also bridgesfrom where we are to where we want to go,making it possible for things to occur whichwould otherwise not have happened.

It is a dynamic process as the future is basi-

Life is seasoned withdifferent seasons

cally uncertain and things change with thepassing of time. All of us know that every-thing has a natural cycle.

The tides go in and back out, night followsday, and life refurbishes itself. We all havegood times and bad times, but nothing staysthe same. Change is constant.

Planning helps develop objectives. Thefirst step in planning is to fix objectives whichwill give direction to the actions to be taken.

This step focuses attention on the resultsdesired, I surely am welcoming this seasonbelieving that with it comes change as oneshould not linger at one point, but revolve.

Now come on, are these changing timesbad at all? You say.

EVATON. - Entertainment duo ‘DOMKOPAND CLOWNS’ now known as Diamondand Gold will participate in this year’s SouthAfrica’s Got Talent TV show after they made

it as semi-finalists last year. Fikile MorrisMpore (44) AKA ‘Domkop’ was always ta-lented with his hands and loved entertainingfrom a young age. It was because of this thathe decided to form his own entertainmentgroup with his partner known as ‘Bra Sox’.in 2002.

“I chose Ephraim as my partner becausehe was the only one doing what I do, whichis puppet entertainment,” says ‘Domkop’. Di-amond and Gold is a multi-talented duo thatfocus on guitar-playing, puppet entertain-ment and clowning. ‘Domkop and Sox’havenever had a 9 - 5 job.

They have always preferred working in theentertainment industry and this is how theysurvive. People hire them for parties and

events or they go around entertaining at sho-ping malls. guitar. Their message is that, thisyear, people should vote for them so they can

be crowned as winners because, ‘no matterhow silly your talent may be to others, don’tbe afraid to pursue it’.

Vaal University of Technology’s Gradu-ation 2013 programme of celebration

began at the Main Campus in Vanderbijl-park on Monday, 15 April and ended on Friday, 19 April 2013.

Graduation ceremonies take place at the Sites of Delivery from Tuesday, 23 April at the Ekurhuleni campus, on Wednesday, 24 April at the Secunda campus, and on Thursday, 25 April 2013 in Upington.

VUT is proud to announce that it has pro-duced a record 3900 graduates this year. The Vanderbijlpark campus alone will have produced 2600 graduates in 2013, including the September graduations.

For the first time at VUT, the Faculty of Human Sciences conferred a Doctor Technologiae: Fine Art, to Kayamba Karitit William.

Wednesday, 17 April 2013 marked a sig-nificant award of the Doctoris Technolo-giae (Honoris causa) from the Faculty of Human Sciences, to Justice Majake Meshak Mabasele, a judge of the North and South Gauteng High Court. He has made significant strides, as a friend of VUT, to make a substantial donation of law books to VUT’s new Department of Law.

Many SRC leaders graduated this year, set-ting an example of exemplary leadership. The Council, management and staff of VUT congratulate all graduates on this important milestone and wish them every success for the future.

This week I was busting my head against thewall because I had run out of ideas as to whatto write about. I thought it was because it wasMonday. That day Shooting From The Hipsuffered from a hangover. No man, not a drin-king hangover, a soccer hangover!

You know, it doesn’t matter how long onehas been in the field of journalism - someti-mes you still struggle to put the pieces toge-ther for something to make sense. Yes, sense!Talking about sense, something interestingcomes to mind. Every time I visit the Boipa-tong Stadium, I ask myself why those soccerfans always come in numbers when the hometeams play their league games, especially theBirds FC. Does this have something to dowith loyalty, or with the kind of football theirfavourite teams play?

Rain or cold, they are always there chee-ring for their teams when they play. I don’tknow whether to call this passion for or loyal-ty to this beautiful game. It doesn’t matter. At least these youngsters don’t play in frontof empty seats as is the case with some ofthe PSL clubs, who barely attract a crowd of

2000. It is always encouraging for these yo-ungsters to play in front of a fair crowd atthis young age, to prepare them for the future. My exact point is that no-one will leave hisor her house to come and watch soccer at thestadium, especially in this kind of weather. It must be a good reason to say the least! Itry to make sense of why they are always atthis bumpy Boipatong Soccer Stadium sup-porting their favourite clubs in action.

They are there on Saturdays and Sundaysfrom morning to the last game of the day. No-one forces them from the comfort of theirhouses to come and watch soccer. Soccer istheir lives. This is one aspect of the game wenormally neglect.

We as the media don’t give credit whereit is due. The only time we write about specta-tors is when they throw missiles or should Isay ‘vuvuzelas’ to protest referee decisions. But the fact of the matter is that these are thepeople who make our football exciting on thestands. They don’t run away even if it is ‘rai-ning cats and dogs’. They stand there and singnon-stop. These are the soccer fans who arealways at the Boipatong Stadium. There is thefunny character who always sings and teasespeople around the stadium, including the coa-ches and especially opposition coaches on thebench. Forget about their boozing habits, theybring the best out of everyone at the stadium.

These are the people we will remember,

saying: “If ‘Moketekete’ was here we couldhave fun or laugh.” We must learn to honourpeople while they are still alive. We must notwait until they die and make long speechesat their funeral whilst we failed to honourthem in life.

Of course, some of them come to the stadi-um drunk but their presence means a lot tothe players.

They could go to the shebeens or tavernsbut they choose to come to the stadium to sup-port the development of football.

These are the people who are in love withthis No 1 sport. To them soccer is like theirsecond home or should I say, their girlfriendsand wives! Finally I found sense!

Soccer is like their girlfriends and wivesSHOOTINGFROM THE

“I expect nothing in return because this ispart of my contribution - it is good to see yo-ung people playing sport. I hope these soccerkits will motivate them and maybe I will seesome of them playing PSL teams in future. The donation is not just a publicity stunt butmakes a difference to the lives of these kids,”says Moopeloa, who is a policeman by pro-fession.

BOIPATONG. - The stage is set for a ‘hum-dinger’ when local soccer teams battle it outin the mouth-watering Aaron Mokoena Mba-zo Lounge Soccer Tournament final schedu-led to take place at the Boipatong Stadiumon Saturday. The teams that booked their place in the

final are The Birds FC, Vaal Stars, MightyStars and The Birds Development FC. TheBirds will clash withMighty Stars in the seni-or category, while Vaal Stars FCwill be pittedagainst The Birds Development in what pro-mises to be a ‘dog-eat-dog’ encounter.Vaal Stars qualified for the final after bea-

in the senior category after they beat Maram-baramba FC 7-6 on ‘sudden death’, while TheBirds had to sweat hard before beating thestubborn Vaal Milano in another exciting en-counter. The former Bafana Bafana CaptainAaron “Mbazo” “Mokoena” enjoyed eachand every moment of action. He was accom-panied by Orlando Pirates administrator –Zenzo Mazingiza. Speaking to Sedibeng SterSport, Mokoena says the tournament is hisway to plough back into the Boipatong com-munity for the part they played in his footballcareer. Mokoena says he is passionate aboutthe development of football because he wasalso a youngster playing in the dusty streetsof Boipatong before he joined Jomo Cosmos, the team that shaped his football career. “I’m

grateful to the Boipatong community becauseI’m one of them. They played an importantpart in my football career and I will never for-get this. I feel humbled to be appreciated bymy community and I will always support the

development of football in this region,” saysMokoena. He revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sportthat he would join forces with Mazingiza tostage another soccer tournament in this regionin June.

to be on the way to running away with the lea-gue title. However, they won’t participate in the pro-

motion play-offs if they are crowned champi-ons at the end of the season, seeing that theyhad another team that campaigned in the SafaSedibeng Castle Regional League. The Birds Babies are fourth on the log after

suffering a shock defeat at the hands of theirbitter rivals – Vaal Development Academy. This encounter took place at theBoipatongSta-dium on Saturday.Despite it ‘raining cats and dogs’ the game

livedup to expectations, but off-field dramane-arly spoiled this minute-thriller encounter. Both sides’ coaches nearly exchanged punchesand some officials had to intervene. When Se-dibeng SterSport asked about the incident. TheVaal Development coach Ntando “Mboma”Zwanewas very diplomatic, saying nothing se-rious had happened. “These kinds of thing arebound to happen, especially in derbies but I amhappy the game continued. What is important

is that the game played to the end and localsoccer fans really enjoyed good football. There was nothing personal but emotions

were high because no-one wanted to lose thisgame. I’m proud of how we play despite allthese difficult circumstances,” says the soft-spoken Zwane.Promotion League fixtures:Stream BSaturdayMoropodi vs Sebokeng Academy (Sport
