Changes to SMPTE.org
On August 3, SMPTE launched a new database and website, based on open source software. We chose to use open sourced software because of portability, and community. It’s cost-effective and the community is always making improvements to the software to benefit all users.
– The database portion is a program called CiviCRM, which we have integrated with the website.
– The website is built on a Drupal platform, and that is what we will be discussing today for the most part.

Section Email list
• The functionality of the Section email list has not
changed from the user point of view. You will still
have an email alias that you can use to communicate
with your Section members.
• As in Kavi, you can use the list from any email client.
• There may be up to a 15-minute delay before a
message is sent or received, as a script runs every 15
minutes to verify authorized senders.

Access , List content and subject lines
• The Chair, Sec’t/Treas and Section Managers will be authorized users of the list.
• The list is built to only draw current and graced members of your Section. Should you wish to send a special invitation to lapsed members, ask for an additional list as you need it.
• The subject line of the email will be prepended with the list name. It would look like [list name] Subject line or
[New York] SMPTE November meeting notice

Subject line and the unsubscribe function
• Currently, we are building an unsubscribe function
for these lists that will take users to their SMPTE My
Account page to unsubscribe from these emails,
should they wish to do so.
• They will also be able to re-subscribe in the SMPTE
My Account page.
• Until this function is completed, please add a short
unsubscribe message provided by headquarters.

SMPTE.org
We built the new SMPTE.org to be a more user-
friendly interface, able to accommodate more
information and video in a cleaner, easier to navigate
interface.
As such, this is a work in progress, and constructive
commentary is always welcomed while we continue
to improve the content.

The Section web pages
Our goals with the Section web pages were to
provide a template and consistent brand image and
functionality, while allowing Sections to update their
own information and add their own touches to the
pages.
New visitors to SMPTE.org should be able to look at
The Section pages and know immediately that this is
a SMPTE page.

What’s new and different?
• There are many options for navigation on the right
hand side of the Section page, including a home
page, events pages, officer listings, past meetings,
calendar, information on membership, videos, etc.
• You can personalize your pages within the SMPTE
framework. We ask that you keep within the color
scheme as shown.
