Gauge: Rounds 1-4 = 3" for size S; Rounds 1-4 = 3 1/4" for size M; Rounds 1-4 = 3 1/2" for size L

Finished size: Infant size S (3-6months); infant size M (9-12 months); infant size L (18-24 months)

Pattern note: Directions are given for size S. Sizes M and L are in parentheses.

HatUsing size F hook and hat yarn, ch 5; join with a sl st in the first ch to form a ring.

Optional edging: (Sl st in the next st, ch 1) around the en-tire piece; join with a sl st in the first sl st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Irish Rose

Using size E hook with any color sport weight yarn, ch 12, be-ing careful not to twist the chain, join with a sl st in the first ch to form a ring. Do not close the ring. This serves as the button-hole for the flower.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around; join with a sl st in the first sc. (12 sc)

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in the same st as joining, ch 3, skip next sc, (sc in the next sc, ch 3, skip next sc) 5 times; join with a sl st in the first sc. (6 ch-3 loops)

Round 3: (Ch 1, 5 dc in the next ch-3 loop, ch 1, sl st in the next sc) 5 times, ch 1, 5 dc in the next ch-3 loop, ch 1; join with a sl st in the joining sl st. (6 petals)

Round 4: Working behind the petals on round 3, ch 1, bpdc around the post of the first sc on round 2, ch 4, (bpdc around the post of the next sc on round 2, ch 4) 5 times; join with a sl st in the top of the first bpdc. (6 ch-4 loops)

Round 5: (Ch 1, 6 dc in the next ch-4 loop, ch 1, sl st in the next bpdc) 5 times, ch 1, 6 dc in the next ch-4 loop, ch 1; join with a sl st in the joining sl st. (6 petals)

Round 6: Working behind the petals on round 5, ch 1, bpdc around the post of the first bpdc on round 4, ch 5, (bpdc around the post of the next bpdc on round 4, ch 5) 5 times; join with a sl st in the top of the first bpdc. (6 ch-5 loops)

Round 7: (Ch 1, 7 dc in the next ch-5 loop, ch 1, sl st in the next bpdc) 5 times, ch 1, 7 dc in the next ch-5 loop, ch 1; join with a sl st in the joining sl st. (6 petals) Fasten off. Weave in ends.

FinishingPosition flower on hat. Mark through the center of the flower for button placement. Remove flower and sew button to hat. Button flower on hat. Crochet several different colors of flowers...they are interchangeable to match any outfit!
