Appendix. Biomarkers Distribution and Possible Outliers The following descriptive results include the total sample in the final data file released to the public in the MHAS website www.MHASweb.org. The revision of the descriptive results was completed as part of the validation procedures of the laboratory results. During the process, certain possible outliers were identified; the observations presented below do not suggest to include or exclude the mentioned cases when using the MHAS databases. Furthermore, the decision to include or not certain cases is left to each researcher, and the results presented below should not be represented as an argument to include or exclude certain observations. For more information of the procedures to collect the anthropometric and performance measures, and the blood samples please see the “Mexican Health And Aging Study 2012 (MHAS 2012): Manual of Procedures – Anthropometrics and Biological Sample” available in the MHAS website www.MHASweb.org.

I. Revised Total Cholesterol (TC) Results (Variable Name: chol_rev_12) For the total 2,002 analyzed samples, the average Total Cholesterol was 201.2 mg/dL. In addition to the visual analysis of the Box Plot (Figure 2), the skewness is consistent to a more symmetric distribution (0.73), compared to the Total Cholesterol results; and the kurtosis is close to 3 indicating no-heaviness in the tails. However, we reported these cases to INSP to validate the results and they were confirmed. The following is a list of the discussed cases.
