Four-minute mile
In the sport of athletics, the four-minute mile is the act of completing the mile run (1.6 km) in less than four minutes. Before 1954, it was an impossible task.Nobody could run that fast for 1.6km.. In 1954, Roger Bannister achieved it in 3 min 59.4s.. And since then… uncountable number of people achieved it. It is now the standard of all male professional middle distance runners.

Sharing SECRET OF SUCCESS by Phylicia Lim Min (class 4.4)
Good evening Mdm Ng, Mrs Christina Tan, Mr Ng, parents, teachers and fellow greenridgeans. Before icommence, i would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the teachers in this school, regardless of whether they had taught me or not . Without you, I would not be where i am today. Thank you! 4 years ago, i came into GSS with T-score of 216, I was very disappointed as it was way below my expectations. Having not done very well for PSLE, I was determined to do well for O levels. It was then that I began to improve academically under the guidance of the many amazing teachers in GSS.

Although there were countless times where I hit rock bottom and felt like giving up, I kept reminding myself the reason why I've held on for so long. Don’t get sucked into the "i'm too cool to study" phase. Find your motivation and don’t let anyone hold you back. You don’t want to look back on a test, a semester, a year and think “I wish I had done more". Give it your all and you will reap the benefits. Most importantly, truly understand your stuff, it is not enough to know superficially the equations and formulae, you have to dive deeper and know why they work the way they do.
GREENRIDGE SECONDARY SCHOOL Belief: ‘Learn. Improve. Excel.’
Phylicia Lim Min (class 4.4)
You need to appreciate the concept and develop an intuitive feel for it especially for Maths & Sciences where a single concept can be embedded within an amazingly large variety of questions. Because with sound conceptual understanding , it will allow you to adapt what you already know and apply that knowledge to any question. Gaining exposure to different question types is also important so practice and do your ten year series. Please clarify your doubts right away with your teachers! I wont lie and say it’s going to be a breeze because it will not be! Work extremely hard and I hope all of you achieve your desired goals.

Before I close, I wish to share with you some words of encouragement. IIt does not matter where you are now or where you were in the past, but where you choose to go from now on. The future is as vibrant as you make it and the best is yet to come. Thank you.Phylicia Lim Min

Homework and Revision
• Sustain good discipline in our students to review their learning and a good habit to see to the completion of work on their own
• In preparation for the national examination, students MUST begin the revision process.
• At home, do exercise discipline and set aside time to begin revision
• Do not wait till it is too late.
GREENRIDGE SECONDARY SCHOOL Belief: ‘Learn. Improve. Excel.’
Target Setting and Monitoring
• Every graduating student is to MONITOR their improvement in their subject targets and write actual scores of every assessment taken next to subject targets.
• This allows students to timely reflect on what are the causes and effects enabling their performance and hence develop some traits of self-directed learners .
GREENRIDGE SECONDARY SCHOOL Belief: ‘Learn. Improve. Excel.’

Remedial Programmes
• Weaker students will be required to attend remediation.
• Structured remedial for graduating classes will commence in Week 4 of Term 1.
• Make appointments with your subject teachers early so that you can secure a consultation time after school to clarify your doubts.
• Do not look for teachers’ help only 2 weeks before O Level exam. It is like waiting until stage 4 cancer before seeing doctor.
