REFLECTION ON THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

I n today’s Gospel of the Trans-figuration, the voice of God is heard, saying of Jesus, “This is

my chosen Son; listen to him.” as we continue on our way through this Lenten Season our attention should be drawn more and more to the voice of Jesus. What is he saying to you? What are you do-ing to listen to him? Our prayer is for a heart open to hearing what Jesus has to say to each of us.

St. Paul, in the second reading from Philippians, makes explicit the meaning of the Transfigura-tion: “Our citizenship is in heav-en.” Just as God’s promise to Abram is fulfilled so God will ful-fill the promise of heavenly citi-

zenship to us. “Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can. Just so shall your descendants be.” Peter, John and James along with Moses, representing the Law and Elijah, the Prophets witnessed the glory of Jesus Christ in which we all will share. Let us on our Lenten journey of Faith be attentive to God’s promises.

They have given to our Parish The Domestic Church Series which helps us to live out the Church’s mission and vision for our fami-lies. A REFLECTION ON THE FEAST OF ST. JOSEPH

St. Joseph was of the line of David which was essential in order for Jesus to be legally of the house and line of David in fulfillment of the Scriptures. What is more important for us is the example which Jo-seph left us. He was a man of faith who played his role in God’s salvific plan for us; he was obedient to the will of God; he had a love for the Law and its fulfillment; he showed piety and fortitude in times of trial; he had a chaste love for the Blessed Virgin Mary and he exercised his paternal authority with due care. He is therefore a true example of Christian living and is the Protector and Patron of the Universal Church. Joseph is also the patron of carpenters and manual workers.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH O glorious St. Joseph, you were chosen by God to be the foster father of Jesus,

the most pure spouse of Mary ever Virgin and the head of the Holy Family. You are chosen as the heavenly patron and protector of the Church.

It is with great confidence that I implore your powerful assistance for the whole Church on earth. Protect in a special manner all who labor for souls amid the trials and tribulations of this life

and grant that all peoples of the world may follow Christ and the Church.

IRISH BLESSINGS & SAYINGS IN HONOR OF ST. PATRICK May the Irish hills caress you; may her lakes and rivers bless you; may the luck of the Irish enfold you; may the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you. May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go. Never iron a four-leaf clover, because you don't want to press your luck.
