SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER: DIVINE MERCY April 3, 2016

FROM THE PASTOR

Dear Parishioners, Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. See the notice in

this bulletin about our services and confessions. Next week will be our Instructional Mass at all

four Mass times. We will learn about the symbolism and history

of the Mass. If you have questions, please email them to me. On the back of the insert page today are pictures from our

Holy Week and Easter events and an appreciation to all those who worked so hard to make them possible. We wish to acknowledge two $500 gifts to the Memorial Fund from the Estate of Joan Capron and the Estate of

Elizabeth Bentley. This Fund helps us to do repairs on our ten

buildings and our properties. Please include our parish in your own Estate plans to provide for our future.

For April, at Saint Felix Church in our “rotating shrine,” there is a

sculpture by Sister Marie Pierre

Semler (1901-1993) of the Maryknoll Mission Sisters. The

sculpture was made in 1941. Sister had broken her wrist and thus

could not paint. She went to a class by a Russian sculptor and his

wife. She found that she could

sculpt with her left hand. This was her first piece, named “Lord of

Life” by the Maryknoll Sisters’

founder, Mother Mary Joseph Rogers

(1882-1955). A photo of this Easter

sculpture of Jesus appears here. Below the actual statue at Saint Felix Church is an explanation written by the artist herself.

This art piece is on loan to us from David and Mary Hoysic.

David, a nephew of Sister Marie Pierre, along with his wife Mary,

operates P. Semler Studio at 12 W. Main, Phelps (585-737-0535) Sincerely, Father Gagnier
