A Child is a Gift from God.

The school year is coming to an end. I attended a few speech and award ceremonies this week. One of the Year 6 students mentioned sadly that he did not win any award. I said neither did I, in the primary or secondary level. He was delighted. While assessing our children, it is important to know the myth and facts about intelligence. First of all, intelligence is defined as the ability to profit from experience, to act purposefully, think rationally, and deal effectively with changes in the environment. Secondly, there are different types of intelligence and academic achievement is just one among them.

Spatial intelligence: it is the ability to comprehend three-dimensional images and shapes or the ability to visualize the world.

Interpersonal intelligence: It is the ability to understand and interact effectively with others. They are able to understand the feelings and emotions of others and the virtue of empathy.

Intrapersonal intelligence: intra means “within the self. It means the ability for self-awareness or introspection. They are aware of their emotions, motivations, beliefs, and goals.

Linguistic Intelligence: It deals with an individual's ability to understand both spoken and written language, as well as their ability to speak and write themselves. These kids will be word smart.

Kinesthetic intelligence: They are skilled at using their body to convey feelings and ideas. They may be good dancers and sporty. They have good motor skills and we call them body smart.

Existential Intelligence: It involves an individual's ability to understand values and try to grasp the purpose and meaning of life and death. People who excel in this intelligence typically are able to see the big picture and are known as life smart.

Mathematical and Logical intelligence: They are good at scientific investigations and identifying relationships between different things. They are also good at understanding complex and abstract ideas.

Musical Intelligence: The capacity to discern pitch, rhythm and tone.

CHILDRENS / YOUTH MASS - CHRISTMAS EVE

Calling all children and high school youth!!

Before the 6pm mass on Christmas Eve, there will be a Nativity

Play. It will be interactive throughout the 6pm Mass with many

parts. Therefore many children for the play and high school

children for reading and narrators will be required. Three

practices will be held on 9th, 16th and 23rd December after the

9.30am Sunday Mass. Practice will be approx. 45 mins on

the three Sundays.

We hope to see all children available on the 9th December for our first practice.

- The Liturgy Committee

Note: First 2 practices will be in the Parish Centre.

Final practice on 23rd December will be in the church.

Every child is gifted and does not need labels. Every single one has a special

interest, passion, and unique talent. Of course, we want our children to do

well in school and get good grades, but a good education is holistic, based

on faith and reason; it is way more than just academics. Each child must

be nurtured spiritually, academically, socially and physically. We want

them to be happy, to be kind and to be curious about the world.

God Bless our Children,

Fr. Theo

Vinnies Christmas Appeal

Despite 25 years of unbroken economic growth Australia has failed to reduce its overall levels of poverty in the last decade. This is where Vinnies must step in. Vinnies is committed to enabling families and individuals to experience joy, dignity and security this Christmas time. To make a financial donation, there are envelopes on the church pews – please place your donation in the envelope and hand in during the collection, at the Parish Office, or to our welfare office at 23 Davey Street. The envelopes can be posted, but please do not post the envelopes with cash in them. There is provision on the envelopes for paying by Credit card if that is your preferred option. Donations of $2.00 and over are tax-deductible. Please tick the box if you require a receipt. On our Christmas tree there are many colourful tags. Each tag has a food item printed on it. Please take a tag or as many tags as you wish to purchase the items, then place these items in the box provided. This food will be used to provide the needy with food items for the next few weeks – a very welcome form of help after all the expenses of Christmas. Thank you for your continued generosity to Vinnies Mandurah
