GLORIA Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One; you alone are the Lord: you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY Almighty God, who alone can bring order to our unruly wills and affections: give us grace to love what you command and desire what you promise, that, in all the changes and chances of this uncertain world, our hearts may surely ther be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Voice of a New Song-Elijah noticed nature in action and drew upon it to reveal the God he knew, to cultivate faith in a new way, in a new time, and amongst a people who had begun to waver. In Paul‘s exhortation to the Galatians, we hear echoes reminding them to pay attention to the one they knew. The Roman centurion observed Jesus‘ nature and revealed faith in an unexpected way. Through each of these situations we are reminded that there is no need to compete to prove God‘s worthiness. Instead, we share and reveal the nature of God‘s goodness in ways that become seeds of faith in our time and place.

Please sit LITURGY OF THE WORD A Reading from the First Book of Kings

Elijah’s Triumph over the Priests of Baal So Ahab sent to all the Israelites, and assembled the prophets at Mount Carmel. Elijah then came near to all the people, and said, ‗How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.‘ The people did not answer him a word. Then Elijah said to all the people, ‗Come closer to me‘; and all the people came closer to him. First he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been thrown down; Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, ‗Israel shall be your name‘; with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord. Then he made a trench around the altar, large enough to contain two measures of seed. Next he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood. He said, ‗Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt-offering and on the wood.‘ Then he said, ‗Do it a second time‘; and they did it a second time. Again he said, ‗Do it a third time‘; and they did it a third time, so that the water ran all round the altar, and filled the trench also with water. At the time of the offering of the oblation, the prophet Elijah came near and said, ‗O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your bidding. Answer me, O Lord, answer me, so that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.‘ Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt-offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and even licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, ‗The Lord indeed is God; the Lord indeed is God.‘

(1Kings 18.20-21, 30-39) Hear the word of the Lord, thanks be to God.

1 Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.

2 Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. 3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

4 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.

5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

7 Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.

9 Worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.

10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.

11 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it.

12 Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.

13 Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.

(Psalm 96)

A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Galatians

Paul an apostle—sent neither by human commission nor from human authorities, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— and all the members of God‘s family who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to set us free from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory for ever and ever. Amen. I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are confusing you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should proclaim to you a gospel contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let that one be accursed! As we have said before, so now I repeat, if anyone proclaims to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let that one be accursed! Am I now seeking human approval, or God‘s approval? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ. For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin; for I did not receive

it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. (Galatians 1.1-12) Hear the word of the Lord, thanks be to God.

HYMN 361

Alleluia, alleluia!

God loved the world so much, he gave us his only Son, That all who believe in him might have eternal life.

Alleluia!

The Lord be with you And also with you.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke

Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ After Jesus had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. A centurion there had a slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to death. When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave. When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying, ‗He is worthy of having you do this for him, for he loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for us.‘ And Jesus went with them, but when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, ‗Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; therefore I did not presume to come to you. But only speak the word, and let my servant be healed. For I also am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ―Go‖, and he goes, and to another, ―Come‖, and he comes, and to my slave, ―Do this‖, and the slave does it.‘ When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, he said, ‗I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.‘ When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health. .

(Luke 7.1-10)

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

The priest continues with the preface:

................praising you, and saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. .....................in remembrance of me.‘

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

………………never-ending praise:

Blessing and honour and glory and power are yours for ever and ever. Amen.

As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are confident to pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

Dear Friends, In order to clarify some misconceptions, I outline the following for you all: The Chapel of St. Mark at Storm Village now belongs to Anglican Care, and Parish Council has asked Anglican Care and the Bishop to reimburse the Parish of Taree $300,000 for the building of the Chapel of St. Mark. The Chapel is now not a Parish Church owned by us, but an Aged Care Home Chapel owned by Anglican Care. In light of The Parish Vision Statement, in recognition of the new ownership of the Chapel by Anglican Care, and in proper stewardship of parish resources, the Parish Council have resolved to close Sunday services at Chatham, and to transfer the Thursday service at Storm Village and the Friday service at Bishop Tyrrell to their new Chaplain, the Rev’d Steve Niland. Ordained Ministry continues in all of these places, both pastoral and Eucharistic. It has not ceased, just changed timing and scheduling. Our parish can now focus on our mission and ministry in the regions of Taree and Old Bar, with energy and sufficient resources. We have only one full time priest, with no expectation of another for at least 18 months, so we have to ‘cut our cloth’ to enable ministry to be done. The Rev’d Helen Holliday is not on a salary, so she is only available for Sundays, Wednesday Healing Service and funerals, at locum rates of pay. If you hear of people who are concerned that these decisions have been made hastily

or without considerable consultation, please reassure them that this is definitely not

the case, and direct them with any concerns they might have about these issues to

me, the Parish Wardens or members of the Parish Council: David Denning, Lyn Diessel,

Brett Eggleston, Beryl Fenwick, Margaret Griffis, Les Hogarth , Rev’d Helen, John

East and Bruce Walker, who consented to these changes by democratic vote and Diocesan

guidelines of activity.

There’s a wise old saying: ‘You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.’ Our important NAIDOC Week Service of Repentance and Reconciliation approaches on Sunday 3 July. I am proposing that we also use this service as a celebration of our unity as a parish family. To enable us to do this, I will be holding only one service that day at 9.00am at St.Johns, and I invite the Old Bar parishioners to travel into Taree and join us. This will also be a strong sign of our solidarity with the Biripi people. A number of our parish family have been sick at home or in hospital in recent days. Please continue to pray for them, and don’t hesitate to let myself or Rev’d Helen know that someone is need of a visit from the clergy. Yours in Christ, Fr. Chris
