Our Flagship Safari—A Truly Exclusive Adventure into the Heart of Wildest Africa

In the wilds of Botswana, you'll find the wonders that drew adventurers to the African continent over a century

ago. Vast elephant herds still roam the acacia-studded savanna. Hippos and crocodiles crowd the Chobe River's

marshy channels. Antelope, giraffe, buffalo and zebra thrive in the Okavango Delta wetlands and at watering

holes that sustain life on the dry plains. Lions laze beneath mopane trees while leopards sprawl in branches

above, icons of genuine wilderness that is vanishing all too quickly. Intimate tented safari camps are reminiscent

of a nostalgic era in the African bush, yet replete with modern-day luxuries that ensure your comfort even in

some of the planet's most remote wild places. If you're searching for the classic romance of Africa, it's still here

in secluded Botswana—and it's sure to exceed every wildlife photographer's wildest dreams!

Our Flagship Safari—A Truly Exclusive Adventure into the Heart of Wildest Africa

Day 1: Livingstone, Zambia—Zambezi River

Our Botswana trip begins just over the border in

Livingstone, Zambia, where you're met on arrival and

transferred to Toka Leya to spend the night. This luxury

camp sits in a prime location overlooking the mighty

Zambezi River upriver from Victoria Falls, surrounded by

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage

Site. The park’s name means “The Smoke that Thunders,”

and it’s an apt moniker, as we see mist clouds rising off the

falls from miles away. Enjoy a classic sunset cruise before

joining our Expedition Leader for a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park—Rhino Walk / Village Visit / Victoria Falls

Our day begins with a visit to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, where a wildlife drive offers our

firstsampler of the species diversity we may see during our safari, plus ourbest chance to see a white

rhinoceros. Accompanied by a local guide andpark rangers tasked with guarding the park's rhinos

around the clock,we'll get out of the vehicle for more intimate encounters, learning how to read signs of

the rhinos' presence and follow theirmovements. With no predators in the park, we can also walk safely

insearch of zebra, giraffe, warthog, various antelope species, and othersmaller mammals and birds.

Elephants regularly cross the river, too, andwe often see them wandering throughout the park. Later

this morning we visit a nearby village to learn about the traditions and daily life of the local people.

Then, it’s off to Victoria Falls, the world’s most astounding cataract, for a guided walking tour.  The

profuse spray has created a rain forest on the rim, and a network of walkways offers varying viewpoints

over falls, which span more than a mile and plummet 350 feet into the Zambezi Gorge.

Days 3–5: Chobe National Park, Botswana / Linyanti Private Reserve

Traveling by road and ferry, we cross the Chobe River into Botswana's Chobe National Park, famed for

its vast elephant herds—a population that exceeds 70,000. On a private boat cruise down the river and

its myriad channels, we sometimes see several hundred elephants in a single day. Waterbirds abound,

including herons and storks, and hippos and crocodiles are on view along the muddy banks. Keep an

eye out for egrets perched on the backs of elephants cooling off in the water.

This afternoon, fly to the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, some of Africa's most dramatic big-game

country. Its tree-dotted plains are home to lion, leopard, spotted hyena and African wild dog, as well as

enormous elephant herds. We expect to encounter wildlife in amazing proximity along the Linyanti

River and surrounding environs. Spend time in a newly built hide that faces the Linyanti Channel,

elevating us close to elephants, hippos and numerous birds. In the evenings, relax at our secluded

camp, where well-appointed walk-in tents evoke an earlier romantic era of safari travel. Through the

thorny acacia branches we see more stars than we ever dreamed of, scattered across an impossibly

black sky.

Days 6–8: Linyanti / Okavango Delta—Exploring the Flooded Marsh

After a final wildlife drive in the wilds of Linyanti, leave dry land behind as we transfer by

light aircraft to the Okavango Delta. Earth’s largest inland water system, the delta’s

headwaters lie in the western highlands of Angola. They join with other rivers in Namibia

and Botswana to meet the Kalahari Desert,  creating a green oasis that sprawls amid the

sands and dry savanna. With its vast network of waterways and wetlands, the Okavango is

home to a profuse collection of wildlife and lush vegetation.

Jacana Camp is located in the delta’s watery heart, a maze of canals and lagoons that sustains a

profusion of wildlife. Explore the constantly shifting marsh by mokoro , a traditional poled dugout

canoe, offering a chance to observe wildlife at eye level in complete quiet. The wetlands and islands are

home to many rare birds, and we may see wattled cranes, Pel’s fishing owls, jacanas, rails, crakes and

moorhens. Following the reed-fringed channels, we may also spy water-adapted antelope such as red

lechwe browsing in the grasses. Depending on water levels and wildlife movements, we also hope to do

a guided walk during our time at Jacana Camp, for an intimate perspective on the small wonders that

also surround us. (Please note that water levels and activities may vary based on actual amounts of

anticipated annual rainfall).

Days 9–11: Southeast Okavango—Santawani Private Concession—Visit with Predator Researcher

This morning we fly by light aircraft to Gomoti Tented Camp in the heart of the Santawani Concession, a

private community-owned reserve encompassing nearly 15,000 acres in the southeast corner of the

Okavango Delta. This small, intimate camp offers a tremendous sense of seclusion on this private

reserve. While some parts of the delta are permanently flooded, other habitats create a mosaic of

varied landscapes, including drier regions like the area that surrounds our camp. A mix of dense

riverine woodland, open savanna and acacia scrub provides ample food for a large array of browsers

and grazing species, as well as predators including cheetah, leopard, lion and rare wild dog. The Gomoti

River is a year-round lifeline for animals, while inland waterholes also sustain them during the dry

season. The diverse range of habitats makes the Gomoti region ideal for all-day excursions, including

traditional 4x4 wildlife drives, picnic lunches and night drives in search of nocturnal species. During our

stay in Santawani, we're joined by a local researcher to learn about studies on the wide range of

predators in the area, including research projects on wild dog, cheetah and leopard.

Day 12: Maun / Depart

Our grand Botswana safari comes to a close as we depart by air for Maun to connect with homeward

flights or continue with onward extensions.

Day 12: Santawani / Maun / Depart

Our rhino-focused Botswana wildlife adventure concludes as we depart by air for Maun, where we

connect with homeward flights or continue with onward extensions.

Physical Rating: Easy to Moderate

To participate in this trip, you must be able to walk unassisted at a steady pace for at least one mile

over uneven terrain, climb steps to get into and out of our raised safari vehicles, and be able to tolerate

daily outdoor excursions that may last 4-5 hours or even a full day at a time, sometimes in hot, windy

and/or dusty conditions. Wildlife drives pose a particular type of physical demand on the body, as they

require long hours of sitting and take place over terrain that is often very rough and bumpy, including

dirt roads with many ruts and potholes. Travelers with back or neck problems, or other health issues

that could be exacerbated by such conditions, should take this into consideration. While any walking

safaris are considered optional, travelers must be able to walk unassisted to and from the vehicle to our

camp accommodations, sometimes walking over uneven ground or on boardwalks. Days spent on safari

are often long, as mornings typically start before daybreak and evening meals are served after

sundown. Safari accommodations and vehicles are not climate-controlled and, depending on the

season, temperatures can range from quite cold to extremely hot, so it is critical that travelers come

prepared.

There Are Important Differences in Botswana

SafarisBotswana holds some of the last true wilderness in Africa, teeming with wildlife that thrives within a

mosaic of healthy ecosystems. An exclusive safari destination like Botswana is one to do right. And we

do. We've spent years honing this hallmark trip to ensure that our itinerary and accommodations offer

a superlative experience. Here’s why our Secluded Botswana safari stands above the rest:

1You Won't Find a Smaller Group—Just 7 or 8 Guests!

The best African safari can't happen in crowded conditions. We take a maximum of just seven

guests on regular departures—and eight guests, divided into two vehicles for game drives, on

photo departures. An exceptionally small group ensures a highly personalized safari experience,

allowing us to stay at very small camps that offer truly intimate wildlife encounters.

2A "Window" Seat for Every Guest

Our private safari vehicles have open sides, with no glass to impede your view. Though vehicles

have 10 cushioned passenger seats—one in front next to the driver, followed by three rows of

three seats each—we limit our capacity to just seven travelers on wildlife drives (and only four

travelers per vehicle on photo departures), ensuring clear viewing—no one stuck in a middle

seat—maximum comfort, easy photography access and plenty of room for your gear.

3The Optimal Botswana Safari Itinerary

Our itineraries have been meticulously designed in conjunction with World Wildlife Fund to

provide a secluded experience of Botswana's prolific wildlife, where animal numbers are highest

and tourist crowds non-existent. We have years of experience running the best safaris in

Botswana, and we continually tweak our itineraries to ensure that the experience we offer is

second to none.

4Stay in Seclusion on Private Reserves

We stay on exclusive private reserves,  offering an isolated setting and activities off-limits in the

national parks, such as night drives and guided walking excursions that allow a rare chance to

explore the intricacies of the bush on foot. Our secluded camps in Linyanti and Moremi provide

outstanding proximity to wildlife, with close-up photo opportunities and the chance to shoot at

sunset when the light is best (groups staying inside the national parks must be back at camp by

sunset due to park regulations).

5Intimate Camps Facilitate Close-Up Wildlife Encounters

Our very small luxury safari camps maximize quiet encounters with Botswana’s prolific wildlife at

close range. With just four or five tents each, their discreet presence enhances the likelihood that

wildlife will wander through camp. Individual verandas provide guests a private view on the

African wild, with photography possibilities right out the door of your tent. And within the

privately owned Santawani Concession, Gomoti Tented Camp is for our group alone.

6Doors-Off Helicopter Flight on Photo Departures

Anyone who's had an aerial view on an African safari will tell you there's nothing like

photographing wildlife from on high. So we've included an exciting helicopter flight on our photo

departures. Capture wildlife on the move as you soar over the Gomoti River, a year-round lifeline

for animals, and the Okavango Delta—one of the richest wildlife enclaves in all of Africa. With the

doors off, there's nothing to impede your view!

7Air Transfers Maximize Your Time on Safari

Light aircraft flights between safari locations, rather than long, dusty drives over rough dirt

roads, allow us to spend more time scouting for wildlife on safari, instead of enduring

uncomfortable conditions in transit.

8The World's Finest Naturalist Guides

Our guests enjoy the personalized service of some of the Africa's top naturalist guides—a Nat

Hab hallmark. Your NHA Safari Expedition Leader accompanies your group from start to finish,

ensuring a seamless experience. Rather than using less-qualified local camp guides at each

location, you benefit from our Expedition Leaders' expertise—they are the most highly trained

guides in Africa, averaging 15 years' experience, with additional resources provided by WWF’s top

scientists. Our philosophy on this is simple: an African safari is only as good as the guide, so we

must provide the very best!

9Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures Your Superior Botswana Safari

With Natural Habitat Adventures, you receive our exclusive guarantee, which clearly states that

we will meet the lofty expectations we set in our promotional materials. To our knowledge, this is

the most ambitious guarantee made by any adventure travel company.

10Feel Good About Your Carbon-Neutral Journey

We care deeply about our planet, as we know you do. When you travel with us, the carbon

emissions from your trip are 100% offset—including your round-trip flights from home. Natural

Habitat Adventures has been the world’s first carbon-neutral travel company since 2007.

Group SizeLimited to ~7 Travelers

A very important feature of our Secluded Botswana Safari is the limited group size of just seven

travelers, since nature and wildlife encounters are greatly enhanced when fewer people are present.

Secluded Botswana Photo Safaris are limited to eight travelers, who are then split between two vehicles

with a maximum of four travelers per vehicle.

Specialized 4x4 Land Rovers and Land CruisersAn essential element of this safari is our use of a combination of two specialized vehicles during

different parts of the trip, facilitating unmatched wildlife viewing opportunities. Sometimes we travel in

open Land Cruisers that provide a comfortable and safe ride over the sometimes uneven terrain of

Botswana’s desert and delta environs. We also use 4x4 Land Rovers, with a unique suspension system

and an open-sided, tiered seating arrangement designed to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities and

comfort. It is common to have a shade net over the vehicle to provide sun protection and cover during

possible intermittent rains. This protective net comes off during the cooler summer months in

Botswana to allow the sun to warm us on morning and afternoon drives.

Both types of vehicles have 10 cushioned passenger seats—one in front next to the driver, followed by

three rows of three seats each—though we limit our capacity to seven travelers per vehicle on wildlife

drives during our Secluded Botswana Safari, again for maximum comfort, viewing and photo

opportunities. Secluded Botswana Photo Safaris accommodate a maximum of four travelers per

vehicle. Vehicles have a mini fridge stocked with cold drinks, a small library with reference books and

field guides, and ponchos for each traveler in case of rain. Each custom-built vehicle sports front bull

bars and runner boards, as well as a full recovery kit, including spare tires and a high-lift jack. Vehicles

are updated or replaced regularly and meticulously maintained to provide our guests with an

outstanding safari experience.

IncludedTrip price includes:  Accommodations in luxury safari camps, services of Nat Hab's professional

Expedition Leader(s), local guides and camp staff, premier open-sided 4-wheel drive Land Cruisers

or Rovers, all meals from dinner on Day 1 through breakfast on final day, some alcoholic

beverages, most gratuities, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, all activities and entrance fees,

all taxes, permits and service fees.

Internal air cost includes: All light aircraft flights within the itinerary (this will be listed separately

on our invoicing).

Not IncludedTravel to and from the start and end point of your trip, some alcoholic beverages, some gratuities,

passport and visa fees (if any), optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, laundry and

internet, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes (if any), required medical evacuation

insurance, optional travel protection insurance.

Physical RequirementsEasy to Moderate

Days spent on safari

are often long, as mornings typically start before daybreak and evening meals are served after

sundown. Safari accommodations and vehicles are not climate-controlled and, depending on the

season, temperatures can range from quite cold to extremely hot, so it is critical that travelers come

prepared.

Important Information About This TripThis consummate safari includes prime accommodations in Botswana’s best and most remote wildlife

locales. Each safari camp is small and intimate (usually accommodating just our small group), with

electricity and private en suite bathrooms. After full days of exploration and thrilling wildlife encounters

that our Expedition Leaders help facilitate, our comfortable and hospitable accommodations provide an

additional highlight. On these safaris, itinerary changes may occur in order to take advantage of

conditions unique to the season and/or to accommodate unexpected changes in water levels;

therefore, itineraries may need to be rerouted or redesigned without notice.

Mandatory InsuranceSince the areas you will travel to on this trip are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require

medical evacuation insurance for this program. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance

coverage offered by Natural Habitat Adventures, we require that you send us documentation of the

independent coverage you have selected. We recommend that your chosen independent insurance

plan includes at least $250,000 in medical evacuation coverage. Please note that we will add the cost of

Natural Habitat Adventures' medical evacuation policy (currently $48 per person) to your tour invoice

until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, phone

number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists

exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.

To protect your investment and to provide peace of mind while you travel, we also strongly recommend

purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment to trip

cancellations and delays and lost luggage. Please contact our office if you would like more information

about the medical evacuation and comprehensive travel insurance policies we offer by calling 800-543-
