Why Choose Children’s for Pediatric Surgery? Our expertise and the range of services we provide are the top reasons doctors refer their patients to the Pediatric Surgery Team at Seattle Children’s. From managing a hernia or appendicitis to operating on the most complex congenital defect, we provide expert care to children from infancy through young adulthood.

Our high volumes mean greater expertise. In 2017, our general surgeons had 5,500 clinic visits and performed 2,700 surgical procedures.

• All our surgeons are fellowship trained and board certified in pediatric surgery.

• Our skilled surgeons carefully assess the options and choose the best treatment — even if that means setting aside their scalpels and referring patients to other specialists or recommending no surgery at all.

• We have expertise in a broad range of operative approaches, including minimally invasive techniques using laparoscopy, thoracoscopy or robot-assisted surgery.

• Our expert pediatric surgeons work with our neonatal team to treat congenital anomalies at or just after birth in our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Seattle Children’s is the first hospital in Washington to have a Level IV NICU.
