MONDAY, DECEMBER 31 Live from Lincoln Center: New York Philharmonic New Year's Eve 7 p.m. (rebroadcasts at 9 p.m.) CT A tribute to Marvin Hamlisch SUNDAY, DECEMBER 23 Christmas at Luther: Tidings of Comfort and Joy 7 p.m. CT Celebrate the joy, faith and traditions of Christmas with the renowned musicians of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. For 31 years the combined choirs and orchestra have performed traditional holiday carols and sacred Christmas anthems, amid the glow of candlelight in an exquisite concert hall – the Luther College Center for Faith and Life. The performances feature all six choirs at the college, the Symphony Orchestra and the Luther Ringers. Each year more than 8,000 people attend these concerts, which have also been featured on public television stations in 25 states. MONDAY, DECEMBER 24 8 p.m. CT The National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Each year since 1923, the U.S. President and his family help light the National Christmas Tree, located on the Ellipse near the White House. The 2012 ceremony was scheduled for December 6. During the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, nationally known entertainers and a military band perform and the President brings a message of peace to the nation and the world.
