Welcome to the 2016 Performing Arts Season

The Cube Wodonga is thrilled to be offering a season program full of some recognisable faces, cultural and contemporary dance, indigenous music, family shows based on favourite books and breathtaking circus.

Country Song in May is a fictionalised story inspired by the life of Jimmy Little. James oswald “Jimmy” Little ao was an australian aboriginal musician, actor and teacher from the Yorta Yorta people. Queensland Theatre Company brings together a talented cast of six actor/musicians weaving the story and songs

of Jimmy Little to life. You’ll laugh, cry, dance and sing along.

The 2016 season sees the first collaboration with the nationally recognised Flying Fruit Fly Circus with Junk. This partnership with the ‘fruities’ will result in them premiering a new work every two years at The Cube Wodonga, before they tour to Sydney opera House. The Cube Wodonga is delighted to be able to showcase such extraordinary talent. If you haven’t seen the ‘fruities’ perform, this is a show not to be missed. Junk will take audiences on a journey back in time, before children had access to televisions, computers and expensive toys, when the neighbourhood street was a playground full of adventure and make-believe.

on the circus theme, The Cube Wodonga also has Gravity Dolls, winners of the new Circus award at the 2014 Melbourne Fringe Festival, with their show My Life in Boxes.

and yes, it’s back, the popular, quirky and oh so fringe a Little Bit of Shhh with Out of the Box (cubes and boxes hmmm).

all three circus performances showcase the incredible versatility that this venue has and seeing artists swinging on trapeze over your head one minute while others tumble and fly through the air, or seemingly glide up and down on ropes, will be sure to give you goose bumps!

Rod Quantock will be a familiar name (and beared face) to many of you. Quantock will be gracing the stage for a night of absurdity, climate change and contemporary politics in September in his show Boredom Protection Policy. not one to shy away from an opinion or water things down, Quantock promises to have you in stiches and also leave you fired up and thinking about the state of the nation!

The Cube Wodonga’s films are back in 2016, however this

time they will take you on three separate journeys filled with hope, inspiration, faith and motivation with Movies that Matter.

The Cube Wodonga continues to support PRoJeCTion Dance and Murray Conservatorium with two performances each. The work that these two artistic community-based companies produce is of world-class standard and The Cube Wodonga is always happy to work with, and build on its partnership.

Junk is the new show from our very own national youth circus. Following on from their smash hit Circus Under My Bed this new production premieres at The Cube Wodonga prior to a season at Sydney opera House. Junk is inspired by regional childhood stories of the 1940s and reflects on the childhood of today, questioning the importance of risk taking and creative play for children.

Set in a junkyard the performers, aged between 10 and 19 use their imagination to transform household trash into magical landscapes, creating ingenious apparatus on which to perform their breathtaking circus skills.

no, you cannot. all shows you see at The Cube Wodonga are protected by copyright laws and taking unauthorised still photos, video and audio recordings is a violation of these.

also, a single flash from the auditorium can be enough to seriously distract a performer which can cause major safety issues.

The Cube Wodonga aims to be an all inclusive venue and supports the Carer Card program as well as being Companion Card affiliated.

The venue has wheelchair and scooter recharge facilities, easy accessibility throughout the venue, an accessible toilet fitted with adult change table and toilet hoist.

The Cube Wodonga operates a hearing loop in the meeting room and foyer, and the auditorium is fitted with an “assistive listening system”.
