It’s hard not to think in terms of before and after Covid-19. However, it’s important for me to remember all the things Theatre B did when it was healthy and normal for groups of strangers to gather in our intimate space and leave as friends and neighbors for having shared a creative journey of discovery together. That is what theatre is and does. It is an ancient and essential art. It is participatory and evolving. It is a journey that opens us to one another. I live in hope that we will again breathe together in the theatre’s sacred circle of artist and audience, storyteller and listener, neighbor and friend.

Theatre B Financial Report for FY20

As we close our 17th season, the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent economic slowdown are dominant factors in our financial position. However, Theatre B did see an increase in grant and contributed revenue, as well as receipt of a PPP loan to help offset the loss of ticket income. The company holds a small reserve and has reduced expenses without laying off staff or losing its facilities. The Board is developing budget scenarios for the coming year with conservative expectations for revenue.

Thank you to our donors and grant funders for stepping up to help us meet this challenge with tenacity and hope.

Expense Total $184,214.98 Income Total $169,383.15

Program Report

Season 17 kicked off with an Ensemble passion project to delve into classi-cal text with HAMLET by William Shakespeare. December brought us THE LAST SCHWARTZ, where we dropped in on the Schwartz family’s Yahrzeit, a ritual to mark the passing from one generation to another. February fea-tured THE ROOMMATE by Jen Silverman, a hilarious and surprising jour-ney of two middle aged women redirecting their lives. We also hosted anoth-

er season of First Friday’s at B, a monthly discussion on food-related topics, and a touring production from the Illusion Theatre, THE PINK UNICORN.

In spring, everything changed. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, we were not able to produce Florian Zeller’s award-winning play about dementia, THE FATHER. We also had to cancel presentations by the FM Opera and a home school Shakespeare troupe, the Knaves Iambic. Instead, Theatre B developed B At Home, a weekly Facebook Live Stream presenting comic book readings, scenes from classic T.V., poetry, and short plays by David MacGregor and our own Matthew Burkholder.

Special Thanks to Casts, Crews, and Volunteers!

We are so grateful to all the artists and volunteers who continue to make immeasurable contributions to the work of Theatre B. While Theatre B has made a commitment to paying all artists a small honorarium, it does not sufficiently reward the creativity, expertise, and dedication they share. Their involvement is crucial to our success and it is a tremendous gift to the community at large.
