Session Outline • Explain to the children that puppet shows were common in the past at seaside resorts- in particular Punch & Judy Shows. • Explain that they are going to make up their own puppets & puppet show using their outside environment & natural materials. • You may want to give them a story they know or you’re currently reading in class as a starter which they can adapt and change if they want to. (Ideally one character per person in the group) Making Puppets (Alternatively you could provide the puppets) Split the children into groups for their shows. Show them how to make a simple puppet. (See Invention & Investigation: Stick Man (more complex) or Invention & Investigation: Stick Person (simpler) Children can create their own character using creativity in their design. Puppet Show (The children could be involved with making their ‘outdoor theatre.’) Groups to find a suitable location to practise their puppet shows. Discuss safety aspects with the children. Children can present their shows to others. Differentiation: HA- Add character features to their puppets & adapt stories in their shows. LA- Help with puppet & guidance with shows where needed.
