GAME PREVIEWVSCastle Knights Wai‘anae Seariders

The last Oahu Interscholastic Association (O.I.A) championship for the Wai‘anae High School Seariders was in 1997 with a 23-3 victory

over the Campbell High School Sabers. A decade later the Seariders fought back to the in the O.I.A championship only to lose to the Leilehua mules 12-3. Now, in 2013, the third seed Seariders seek to return

to championship form as they begin their playoff push against the Castle High School Knights. The Knights have a record of three wins and five losses, but have put up a fight in every game they have played. With notable wins this season over Damien and Mckinley, the never say quit Knights, look for a statement victory in the postseason. Castle’s offense is led by QB Stephen Lee, who ranks fourth in the O.I.A red division for passing and has thrown 6 touchdowns this season. The stingy Searider defense hopes that home field

advantage will slow down Lee and his receivers, while the Searider offense is focused on continuing to roll.

“All we gotta do is play with the same confidence that we had this whole season and we’ll be able to push through the game,” senior WR Po’okela Noa Nakamoto said. Nakamoto, the number one receiver for the Seariders, compliments the ground and pound offense with over 70 receiving yards a game and 5 touchdowns on the season.Confidence is indeed a key factor for tonight’s game

as history is not in the Searider’s favor. The last time the Seariders faced the Knights at home they fell short of the win. Hopefully the pressure of the first home playoff game in two years will ignite the Seariders to play their best. “I feel that we haven’t played to our full potential, but in all, it was a great season and I hope we continue with that will to move on in the playoffs,” senior DB Joshua Jeremiah said. Wai‘anae is one of two schools in the O.I.A that has

never fallen out of the higher tier red division, and tonight is the night the Seariders show everybody why that tradition of excellence is alive and well.
