FALL 2010 at SEAPARC
SEAPARC RENOVATION PROJECTIn September 2009, SEAPARC received funding from Canada-BC Building Canada Fund for improvementsto the arena. This project is a building expansion to add a single storey space between the existingarena and the existing aquatic centre. The expansion will provide additional arena change rooms, programspaces and staff area. The refrigeration and mechancial system was upgraded with a highly energy-efficient system with waste heat recovery. This portion of the project will be complete on August 15,2010. Dressing room construction was started during the second week of July and it is anticipated to becompleted in March 2011. The road access at the back of the facility will be restricted for cosntructionactivities. Access to SEAPARC and parking will be maintained during construction; the facility usage andprogram activities disruption will be kept to a minimum.

Stuck in a Level?Red Cross Swim Lessons are based on age-specific physical developments and on building-blocktheory. For a child to successfully learn how to swim they must be comfortable getting wet before theyare able to float on their own, before they can swim the front crawl. If your child is having troublemoving onto the next level get into the water with your child and practice the basics: eyes in, frontfloat, front glide, glide with kick. Swimmers of any age can move their swimming skills along by goingback to the basics. Feel free to talk to one of our Deck Leaders with any questions about progressionsor helping your child through a level.

Deck LeadersDuring all swimming lessons there is a deck leader wearing white on the pool deck. The deck leader’srole is to help you with any questions or concerns you may encounter. It is also the deck leader’s role toact as a liaison between the swimming instructors and the parents of the swimmers within the classes. Therefore, if you have anyqueries regarding your child’s swimming lesson progress or programs offeredat SEAPARC, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our knowledgeable deck leaders.
REPORT CARDS
Report cards help ensure that your child is reg-
istered in the appropriate level. If your child has
a swim report card from a previous lesson,
please ensure that you bring it in on your first
day of lessons to give to your child’s instructor.
The instructor reviews the previous report to
help determine your child’s “needing
improvement / more practice” areas.
