There was nothing left of it afterward. The “Luck O’ The Irish” cream pie for dessert was memorable, too. The club is now in hiatus until approval is received from Oregon Governor Kate Brown and/or Rotary International to re- sume publicly meeting. Our scheduled future programs will be rescheduled, as we are able to do so. At this time, The District Conference is still slated for As announced to the club in an e-mail last Friday, the coronavirus closure of our normal venue at Moreland Presbyterian Church led to a change of location, and today we met at SMILE Station in Sellwood – observing all protocols in effect at the time for such a meeting (two at a table, separated, and sanitary wipedown of surfaces). It was a very good meeting, with an excellent lunch by Laurie Austin, two Rotarians from Lake Oswego “making up” with us, and a very interesting vocational talk by our speaker, Dr. Dan Beeson (a former member of our club and still a Rotarian). Beeson told how his forebears came to Oregon over the Oregon Trail in the mid-1800’s; he himself was born near Medford, attended Linfield College (where he set basketball records which still stand), and played in the NBA in Seattle, before leaving professional sports to study to enter the chiropractic field, after discovering how it addressed athletic problems he had suffered while playing basketball. He is today the best-known chiropractor in the state, and he owns his own clinic on the Bybee Curve on S.E. 13th (it turned out to be located on land that once belonged to his grandparents before Sellwood was incorporated as a city!). The same afternoon, Governor Brown imposed new restrictions on meetings (this meeting actually met those too) – and then Rotary International called on all clubs to cease in-person meetings indefinitely, and now we are in compliance with that as well.
