SAVING LIVES TODAY.IMPROVING LIFE TOMORROW.
Thank you for participating in the growth of our
blog! What you have to say is important and will
give readers the educational tools and resources
they need to start or continue donating blood.
Before you begin, here are some guidelines to
assist you in your writing.
TITLE
Make it catchy! The best
headlines are creative, concise,
and bring value to someone’s
understanding of a subject. For
example, “How To” and “Here’s
What You Need to Know About X”
show readers what to expect right
away.
Make one point and have yourentire post talk about that onepoint only. Blog posts arequick reads so your point hasto be made quickly andclearly. For example, if you’redoing a “Day in the Life” post, your point can be about whatyour main function is and howyou're ultimately saving lives. You can write about anything, but everything has to tie backto your one point.
SUBJECT
BE PERSONABLE
Let you personality shine! You
were probably taught not to use
“I” statements in school; with
blogging, it’s welcomed. Treat
your writing like a casual
conversation with a friend or
colleague.
Aim to write 400 – 600 words
but no more than 750 words.
750 is around the limit for
readers, who want to
consume material quickly.
WRITE NO MORE THAN
750 WORDS
BE TIMELY, RELEVANTAND UNIQUE
If you’re writing about a current
event, see what hasn’t been
spoken about that topic yet. For
example, if you’re writing about
Zika, what does that look like for
blood donors right now?
Not all posts will respond to a
current event so if your post
doesn’t, no problem!
Please submit your draft within 3 – 5 business
days of you receiving this guideline document.
After I make edits, I’ll send your piece back to
you.
You’ll then have 3 – 5 more business days to
make any final edits.
I'll edit your piece for clarity and editorial
purposes, so don’t worry about your piece
being perfect. Your post will be thoroughly
reviewed.
