South-East Asia is a highly developed area where -Hevea wood has played a key role in the region’sdevelopment. Hevea, also known as rubberwood, isthe most important and most common wood type inthis part of the world where it is used for producinglatex for rubber production. Latex is naturally producedby the tree and is known as having been tapped fromtrees for more than a century. Hevea trees live for 25-30 years, and over 600,000 hectares are replanted everyyear. Hevea has always been regarded as a by-productwith woodland areas formerly being burnt down whenit no longer became possible to extract latex from thetrees. Instead of burning the trees, the wood is nowused as core material for laminated parquet flooring,thereby greatly benefiting the environment.Our suppliers of lacquers and oils meet the strictestrequirements. We only use water-based lacquers andnatural oils which do not contain solvents.

A healthy environment and thereby access tohealthy, high-quality wood lies at the heart of ouractivities as a flooring manufacturer. We only usewood which has been felled in areas that aresubject to the strictest controls, and it is an absoluterequirement that all wood comes from areas whichare managed according to sustainable forestryprinciples.

Lacquered or oiled

Lacquered surfaces are »practical« floors as they donot require as much care or regular maintenance.

It is therefore for the individual user to decide whetherhe or she wants to spend slightly longer oiling thefloor occasionally or whether to opt for the morepractical lacquered finish. There is little between thetwo from the point of view of daily cleaning.

Ipowood's lacquer system guarantees a hard-wearingsurface which is easy to maintain. The lacquer used isextremely resistant to wear. It consists of six layerswith a quantity of lacquer of 80-90 g per m² beingmuch more than many other products.

However, it is important to consider which floor tolay in different parts of the home. In the kitchen it isusually more practical to lay lacquered flooring, as isthe case in business premises, for example shop areas.

Ipowood is available with both oiled or lacqueredfinishes – which should you opt for? To choose anoiled finish gives the wood a completely naturalappearance, enhancing the character and structureof the wood. A lacquered finish on the other handis a more practical floor with a hard-wearing surface.

Oiled surfaces need to be regularly washed withsoap which saturates the floor, and it is also sometimesnecessary to re-oil the floor. However, all you needto do is add soap to the water and then wash thefloor as normal. A properly maintained oiled surfaceis a hard-wearing floor as well which is very easy toclean and where the natural appearance of the woodcomes to the fore. As long as the surface is saturated,it will not be susceptible to dust and dirt that willotherwise work its way into the wood.

Ipowood contains several different specifications.

A team of buyers and quality inspectors from ouroffices in Delmenhorst/Germany and Singaporeassures that each factory will perform according toIpowood quality standards.

Ipowood products are designed as 3-ply products.See crosscut below. However, the Royal Plank rangein 22 mm thickness with a 6mm face layer is producedeven as a multi-ply for better stability.

Ipowood – with the exception of the species Beechand Kempas – in14-15mm thickness can be installedon a hot water floor heating system (DIN 4725/18560).However, the surface temperature should not exceed27ºC.

The production cost of an engineered timber flooringdepends very much on the availability of differenttimber and the specific production technology.

Concerning the availability of different timber it islogically cheaper to produce at the place of origin.

Each production technology has its advantages anddisadvantages. It can be very efficient for oneparticular product. However, the same technologycan be significantly less efficient for another product.

Maintenance...

CareWooden flooring creates living floors where the grain andcolour variations of the wood are beautifully set off by anoil finish. With correct maintenance, a wooden floor canlast for several generations. It is therefore necessary toregularly apply a care oil suitable for UV-oiled floors whichhelps to preserve the floor’s natural appearance and maintainits resistance to wear and dirt.

CleaningNormally your floor will just need to be vacuum-cleaned,but at regular intervals it should also be wiped with a dampcloth. It is important that the water contains a quality soapdesigned for wooden floor care which both cleans and feedsthe wood. If the floor is extremely dirty, it can be thoroughlycleaned with a suitable cleaning agent. A reconditioning oilshould then be applied.

The flooring is factory-lacquered with six layers of lacquergiving a hard and durable surface. It is therefore not necessaryto lacquer the floor after laying.

CareA lacquered floor requires almost no care, but should thefloor begin to look slightly scratched, apply a lacquerconditioner. When the lacquer becomes worn, the floor mustbe re-sanded and re-lacquered. It is important to do thisbefore the lacquer is completely worn through.

Daily cleaningNormally it is sufficient just to vacuum-clean the floor orwipe it with a damp cloth.However, it can be a good idea occasionally to wash thefloor with a damp cloth using a universal cleaning agentwithout soap substances.

Protect your floor ...• Place a suitable doormat near the entrance.• Remove any stones and grit from the floor immediately.• Place felt pads under the legs of furniture.• Lay protective mats under office chairs.• Avoid sharp stiletto shoes.• Wipe up water spillages immediately.
