Information Bulletin for Admission into M. Phil. Programmes – 2018
1. The M.Phil. Programme is a preparatory programme for prospective researchers at the pre-
doctoral level. The programme is designed to give students a firm grounding in research and to
build conceptual foundations in specific areas of advanced studies in a subject. It is intended for
students with professional goals as educational practitioners in various settings, which may
include careers as college and university faculty, researchers, managers and development
professionals in government, non-government and autonomous research organizations and
development agencies; policy analysts, planners, educational consultants; academic and
professional leaders in the school system etc.
2. The college offers M. Phil Programme in the following disciplines.

3. ELIGIBILITY:
i. Candidates having consistently good academic career with not less than 55% marks (or
equivalent grade) at master’s level in the concerned subject for General category and 50%
marks for SC/ ST category are eligible to apply and have to appear the Entrance Test.
ii. Candidates who have qualified UGC/ CSIR/ NET/ SLET or availed UGC teacher endowed
fellowship or Study Leave from DHE/ Government of Odisha are eligible to apply but are
exempted from appearing the entrance test.
iii. M. Phil. is a full time course and as such as a candidate who is employed cannot be
admitted or allowed to continue in the program unless he/she has been duly relieved and
produces proof to that effect.
4. MODE OF OBTAINING ADMISSION FORM:
Candidates should download the Admission application Form from the college website
www.scscollege.nic.in and submit the same with a Bank Draft of Rs.1000/- (Rupees One
thousand only) drawn in favour of The Principal, S.C.S. (Autonomous) College, Puri and payable
at any nationalized bank in Puri.
5. LAST DATE OF SUBMISSION:
The Application form & admit card duly filled in along with required documents should reach the
undersigned on or before 31.08.2018 by Post only.
6. DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION FORM
Self - Certified copies of the following:
i. Marks sheets & certificates of all examinations starting from HSC/ equivalent to PG.
ii. CLC & Conduct certificate from the Institute last attended.
iii. Caste Certificate from the competent authority (Revenue Officer not below the rank of a
Tahasildar)
iv. Certificate in support of UGC NET/ CSIR NET/ Teacher Fellowship.
v. Documents in support of submission of study leave application to DHE.
vi. In-service candidates will have to submit no objection certificate from their employer.
vii. Admit Card for Entrance Test-2018 with photograph.
viii. Two pass-port size photographs, one in the application form & the other on the Admit card.
ix. Two self addressed envelopes.

7. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED DURING THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:
ADMIT CARD: Candidates are required to bring the admit card to the entrance examination
centre. (They have to report at the examination centre at least one hour before the
commencement of examination).
IDENTITY PROOF: Candidates are requested to bring at least one identity proof like Voter
ID Card/ Aadhaar Card/ PAN Card/ Driving License/ any other recognized identity proof.
8. SELECTION PROCEDURE: Admission into M. Phil. Programmes shall be based strictly on merit. The merit of a candidate
shall be determined on the basis of Career-cum-Entrance Test and Viva-voce.
9. ENTRANCE TEST AND EXAMINATION CENTRE:
i. The Entrance test in the Subjects of Commerce, English, Odia & Geography will be held on
18.09.2018 (Tuesday) between 02.00 P.M. and 03.00 P.M. at S.C.S. (Autonomous)
College, Puri centre.
ii. Admission to M. Phil. course will be made on the basis of entrance test, career assessment and
interview/ viva-voce, i.e. 40% Entrance + 40% Career assessment + 20% interview/ viva-
voce.
iii. Multiple choice/ one line answer questions will be set as per the syllabi of concerned PG
subject courses of S.C.S. (Autonomous) College, Puri.
iv. Though candidates who have qualified UGC/ CSIR (JRF) Examinations & NET/ SLET/
GATE/ Teacher Fellowship holders are exempted from entrance test, they have to appear in
the interview/ viva-voce to finalize the merit list.
v. College teachers availing themselves of study leave from Govt. of Odisha, Dept. of
Higher Education or from DHE, Odisha will have to appear entrance test and viva- voce
and will be treated as general candidates.
vi. Admit card for the entrance examination will be issued before the entrance examination.
vii. Written test will be a qualifying test. The qualifying marks of the written test will be decided
by the M.Phil. Admission Committee. Candidates have to secure minimum 35% of total
marks of the written test in order to make them eligible to be considered for preparing the
merit list for Viva-Voce test.
viii. Out of the total candidates who have qualified in the written test, a maximum of 5 times the
sanctioned strength of respective subject will be called for appearing the Viva-Voce on merit
basis.
ix. The result of Entrance Test and selection of merit list will be published in the college website.

ii. While calculating career mark, weightage will be given to candidates having Honours in
the concerned subject. Honours in the other subject shall be considered at par with pass
weightage.

11. RESERVATION
i. SC- 16.25% of the sanctioned strength shall be reserved for SC applicants.
ii. ST- 22.5% of the sanctioned strength shall be reserved for ST applicants.
iii. The reserved seats are not inter-changeable between SC & ST.
iv. SC/ST applicants selected for admission on general merit shall not be counted against
reserved seats.
v. In case of non-availability of SC/ST candidates, the seats will be filled up by non teacher
general candidates.
12. DISPATCH OF INTIMATION
Intimation for admission to successful candidates on merit shall be dispatched through Speed/
Registered Post. The list of successful candidates in each subject will also be available in the
college website.
Note: Applicants are advised to watch college website regularly for detailed
updates without waiting for postal intimation. The college authority will
not be responsible for postal delay.
13. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION:
i. The originals of all the certificates & mark sheets from HSC to MA/ M.Sc./ M.Com Class.
ii. The original CLC/ Conduct Certificates of the institution last attended.
iii. Three passport size photographs.
iv. The original university registration receipt.
v. Migration Certificate (for students from other Universities).
vi. Undertaking Form duly signed by the candidate and his/her parents.
vii. Relief order (In case of in-service candidates) from the competent authority.
14. ATTENDANCE IN THE CLASS:
A candidate shall be required to attend 75% of classes/ lectures held during the year. Condonation
may be granted by the Principal upto an extent of 15% in exceptional cases.
15. EXAMINATION:
The M.Phil. students will have to appear 02 (two) Semester Examinations during the year. The
students failing to attend 75% of total classes shall not be allowed to sit for the semester
examination.
16. OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:
i. A candidate cannot claim the refund of fees, if his/her application is rejected or the candidate
fails to take the test & interview.
ii. Any misinformation found on verification of the original documents shall lead to cancellation
of admission & will be treated as a cognizable offence.
iii. In case the applicant for admission is found to have indulged in ragging in the past or if it is
noticed later that he/she is indulged in ragging, admission may be refused or he/she shall be
expelled from the institution.
iv. The college reserves the right to suspend the starting of any of these programmes/ courses, if
the circumstances so warrant.
v. Submission of incomplete application/ information shall lead to cancellation of admission.
vi. The decision of the Principal & M.Phil. Admission Committee is final & binding.
