The screen resolution shows the number of pixels the screen can display. A pixel is a tiny dot of light that the screen can show, horizontally and vertically.

Each image you see on a screen is made up of thousands of pixels gathered together – each one showing a slightly different colour and type of light that are the building blocks of the big image.

Screens with more pixels can show images that are sharper and crisper.

Your HDMI or DVI connector should send audio to your TV so you can hear music and movie soundtracks.

This may not work on some older computers with DVI ports. Instead, connect audio separately using a mini-jack cable.

If your screen does not have built-in speakers or you need louder sounds, connect your computer’s sound to an amplifier or powered speakers instead.

You may need to turn down the volume on your screen.
