Scouts Canada Q&A – Uniform Badges Q- If a youth member has started to display badges on his/her sash, may they continue to do so? A - Scouts Canada have been shaping the future for over 103 years. The uniform revitalization reflects the organization’s commitment to innovation and to meeting the changing needs and wants of its members and Canadian youth. It’s been more than 20 years since the Scouts uniform was reviewed, and the vision was clear from the outset the uniform had to reflect not only who Scouts were but also who Scouts are today. The new uniform respects the great heritage of Scouts and signals its bright future. Q- The Cubs and Scouts uniform diagrams do not show the complete badge line-up. Have some been eliminated? A - No, the program badges for both sections remain the same. The new designs are simply smaller in size and are now woven instead of embroidered. Q - The new uniform diagrams indicate that Cubs and Scouts badges now are to be worn on the sleeves. Is there enough space to display all of the badges? A - No, there is not enough space to display all of the earned badges on the sleeves. Two alternate display options have been developed: (i) A badge collector binder similar to a stamp collecting book and; (ii) A wall banner. Both will be available this fall at all Scout Shops or online at Scoutshop.ca. Q - How can the badges be applied to the sleeves? A - There are three badge application options. The first is the same as the current method, which is to sew badges on. The second is to iron them on. Note that iron-on badges are permanent (i.e., they cannot be removed). The third option is to use the adhesive Badge Magic™. The “Badge MagicTM Badge Kit” is a product currently being sold and used by Boy Scouts of America. It is an adhesive sheet that makes badge application easy without sewing or ironing. Here’s how it works: (i) Badges are adhered to a Badge Magic™ sheet and pressure applied; (ii) Badges are peeled off and then then adhered directly to sleeves. Badges adhered with Badge Magic™ are also removable. “Badge MagicTM Badge Kits” are available in two formats: (i) Precut for Cubs and Scouts; and (ii) a “cut- to-fit” for all other Sections. One sheet retails for $8.99 and will be available this fall at all Scout Shops or online at Scoutshop.ca. To learn more about Badge Magic™ visit www.badgemagic.com. Q - When will the badges be available? A - The new Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venturer badges will be available this fall at all Scout Shops or online at Scoutshop.ca.

Scouts Canada Q&A – Uniform Badges

Q- If a youth member has started to display badges on his/her sash, may they continue to do so?

A - Scouts Canada have been shaping the future for over 103 years. The uniform revitalization reflects the organization’s commitment to innovation and to meeting the changing needs and wants of its members and Canadian youth. It’s been more than 20 years since the Scouts uniform was reviewed, and the vision was clear from the outset — the uniform had to reflect not only who Scouts were but also who Scouts are today.

It is an adhesive sheet that makes badge application easy — without sewing or ironing.
