Welcome to the Scottish Home Awards 2012

The Scottish Home Awards is Scotland’s largest independent award initiative for housebuilders, architects and housing associations. The awards strive to highlight the breadth and depth of the hard work and creative flair that goes on across the country.

There are categories to suit every type of new home, apartment, development and project, and we welcome entries from small boutique builders to large sized enterprises, from public to private organisations and from in house marketing teams to external supply companies.

Entering the Scottish Home Awards is free. The finalists and winners will celebrate at a black tie awards ceremony in the summer of 2012.

Senior Housing Development of the Year

The provision, investment and management of senior housing is becoming more important than ever. This category will recognise a company which has responded to the major demographic changes and built retirement housing, sheltered accommodation or homes for seniors living in Scotland.

Entrants should include details on the type of housing, any special construction and design considerations that were applied. They should also address the housing in the context of the local area and how it has added value.

Eligibility: Open to housebuilders, developers, architects or housing associations.

Small Affordable Housing Development of the Year (Housing Associations)

Housing Associations or Councils may enter this award which will recognise a development which has become part of a local community with a well designed community where affordability and desirability must come together.

Eligibility: This category is open to a development of less than 100 units which may also be part of a larger multi housing/use development.

Large Affordable Housing Development of the Year

Environmental Excellence Award

Housebuilders, developers or architects who have taken a sustained and committed approach to adopting environmentally friendly technology for a new build home should detail their activity in this category.

Eligibility:Fordevelopmentswhichexceedtherequiredenvironmental efficiency standards. Not open to supply companies.

• The eco initiative or product • Featuresandspecifications• Its context within a specific development• Budget and cost effective opportunities• The long term benefits• Marketing

Apartment of the Year

Forflatteddevelopmentsmarketeduptothevalueof£175,000.Judges will be looking for supporting information which gives an outline on design, layout, and value for money and interior finish.

Eligibility: Please enter one particular flat style and not the development.

Care Home Providerof the Year

Care homes, nursing homes and residential homes providing adult and elderly care throughout Scotland will be rewarded in this category. Submissions are welcome from purpose built properties or conversions of an existing property/site, all of which have met the requirements of its clients. Judges will be looking for a broad range of details including where the home is, what special facilities have been considered, and does the home have provision for varying levels of care.

Eligibility: Open to housebuilders, developers, architects or housing associations.

Conversion of the Year The renovation and conversion of existing buildings creates some of the most design-rich new property available. Judges will be looking for information on the history of the site, design influences as well as interior specifications.

Eligibility: Residential and non residential properties converted intomultiplepropertiesareeligibleforentry.Forexamplechurches,hospitals, schools, castles, barracks and barns. Extensions to current homes are not eligible.

Rural Development of the Year

This category seeks to reward a rural development which has retained the traditional character of the surroundings in its buildings, provides high quality accommodation and is sustainable. Entries should touch upon the rural challenges faced, special materials required, as well as explain how the development has contributed to a rural community.

Waterside Development of the Year Fornewdevelopmentslocatednexttorivers,lakes,estuariesandcoastlines, a waterside home offers benefits which others can’t match. Judges will be looking for information on concept and design as well as evidence of clever marketing.

The Architectural Excellence Award will recognise the work of a housing development with the judges looking for innovative design, sustainability and the end result must be a home with design and innovation at its core.

Architectural Excellence Award (Single Dwelling House)

The Architecture Excellence Award will recognise the work of a commission for a private client. The judges will be looking for innovative design, sustainability and the end result must be a home with design and innovation at its core.

Luxury House of the Year

Eligibility: This award will recognise an individual, one off, bespoke luxurypropertymarketedatorabove£500,000thatisnotpartofa larger development. Submissions are welcomed from architects, builders and developers.

Eligibility: Open to Housing Associations managing more than 2000 properties.

The work of sales and marketing teams is essential in the promotion of apartments and houses of all styles and build. Judges will be looking for the unique ways teams are assisting buyers, distinguishing themselves from the competition and creatively marketing their product. Incentives, promotions and persuasiveness will also be judged.

Community Partnership of the Year

The ultimate award in the programme will be presented at the discretion of the judging panel and is not open for entry.

Small Housebuilder of the Year

This company entry should give a review of activities from a niche builder creating less than 700 units a year. Judges will be looking for evidence of a clearly focused business which knows its customer and its product and evidence of how it makes its mark in a competitive market place.

• Developments which are currently under construction or were completed between March 2011 and March 2012 are eligible for entry. If a development is not yet completed, please state clearly what stage the development is at.

• You are invited to submit as many entries as you wish but you can only enter the one development twice anywhere in the programme. Please note a separate entry is required for each submission in each category.

• Late entries will not be accepted.
