Wednesday, the following students competed at the Region 10 FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) STAR Events (Students Taking Action With Recognition): Brette Schmidlkofer, junior: Brette competed in an event called Fashion Design. She developed a clothing line called IZZY by Design. She created a portfolio that showed her label for her designs, her intended market, sketches for 6 de-signs for her clothing line, decide how she would sell her designs, discuss her career options. She also created 1 piece of her clothing line. She was judged on her portfolio, presentation using her portfolio and her designed and created gar-ment. She also received a GOLD rating which means she is going on to Wenatchee for the State STAR Event Competi-tion and Leadership Conference. Lexi Saeger, freshman: Lexi competed in an event called Recycle Redesign. She called her event “From Recycle to Upcycle”. She designed and made a complete outfit out of feed bags (dog food for skirt and cat food for top). She then accessorized with pop tab jewelry. She created a tri-fold board that showcased a planning process, sketches of her design, cost sheet, etc. She was judged on her portfolio, sewn outfit and her presentation. She received a GOLD rating which means she is going on to Wenatchee for the State STAR Event Competition and Leadership Conference. Beth Primmer, sophomore: Beth competed in job interview. She created a portfolio with a cover letter, resume’, let-ters of recommendation, career related education, educational enhancement opportunities, special skills, etc. Beth’s event began with time to fill out an application, an interview where she showcased her portfolio and then an exit section where she created a thank you letter. Beth scored a SILVER rating. FCCLA relies on students to not only compete but evaluate. Each event is evaluated by 3 evaluators (2 students and 1 adult). We also utilize the students at facilitators where they either time or are the clerk for their event. A big thank you goes out to Anna Jackson (9

th), Tori Keizer (10

th), Hanna Watkins (10

th) and Lindsey Nordby (12

th) for their help in

making the 2012 FCCLA Region 10 STAR Events a huge success!
