Fabricated Nature seeks to redefine and blur the boundaries between the urban and natural realms by creating a site in which urban dwellers, animals, and city infrastructure are all brought into direct contact, resulting in an interaction between the three that creates an entirely new experience which is neither urban or natural. This project attempts to bring these three parties (urban infrastructure, citizens, and nature) into directinteraction with each other on the site of the current Riverbank State Park and Sewage Treatment Plant, on the Hudson River. This project will fulfill man’s instinctive desire to be close to nature, while not simply trying to create a heavily cultivated, idealized nature or puttingwilderness on display as an object for viewing, but rather as an integral part of the city and urban life.

WEAVE:MUSEUM OF THEUNDERGROUNDRAILROAD
2012Syracuse, NYComprehensive StudioCollaborators: Marcus Johnson
Weave is a museum that recognizes and celebrates the rich history of the Underground Railroad in Syracuse. The building is approximately 13,000 square-feet with a program consisting of a theatre, permanent galleries, and exhibition space for chang-ing exhibits. The changing galleries, theatre, and administrative functions reside in the center of the building, while a path that serves as the permanent exhibit winds around the exterior of the building, leading the viewer on a journey, at times tight and ominous, evocative of the journey the escaped slaves would have to take on their journey North to freedom. Furthermore, the tilting walls both frame the path and serve as monuments to the freed slaves and those who helped them.

RISING TIDES:CATALYZING NYC’sFUTURE LAND LOSS
2011New York, NYGraduate Studio Project
New York City, the greatest Metropolis in the United States, faces serious problems as rising sea levels in coming years threaten to eat away at much of the existing city and coast lines. Rising Tides seeks to embrace the challenge created by climate change for the city and create a new, expandable infrastructure on the waterfront of Manhattan. Rather than shy away from the problem of rising water or shelter the city from the inevitable, this project seeks to catalyze the rising water levels to create an entirely new urban system that can grow as the city itself shrinks. The project utilizes various repetitive modules to create a park, community infrastructure, and utilitarian functions such as public gardens resulting in an everchanging and diverse urban condition on the water around Manhattan.

CONVERGENCE:4-FAMILY HOUSINGUNIT
2012Brooklyn, NYGraduate Studio Project
Convergence is a project to create a housing unit for 2 individuals, a three person family, and a 4 person family in the heart of the Brooklyn Navy Yards. All of the individuals and families are artists and sought not just a 4-unit apartment building, but rather a home for each family and the group as a whole. At the heart of the project is thus to provide each family with their own private space that they can call their home as well as communal interaction to bring togeth-er all of the individuals. Independent geometric forms create the individual units for each family, with the moments of overlap and the residual exterior space creating different forms of interaction between some or all of the units.

DRIVE-THROUGH:ARMORY SQUAREMADE VERTICAL
2011Syracuse, NYGraduate Studio Project
Drive-Through is a critical examination of thecar-centric culture that dominates Syracuse, as well as much of the United States. Even as the downtown of Syracuse, centered around the historic Armory Square has gentrified andflourished, rather than creating a truly walk-able urban core individuals still drive to the many urban amenities. As a theoretical proposition, Drive-Through seeks to take the core functions of downtown, theatres, shops, restaurants, and bars and move them into one super structure. However, not only can patrons drive directly to their destination, but all four of these uses have been redeveloped to be completely subservient to the automobile, embracing the car-centric culture of modernAmerica.
