Many are family orientated, offering superb facilities, top-class security and a calm azure bay with coral reef – ideal for safe swimming. Club Med Bali has family vacations down to an art form. “Club Med’s concept is created for parents able to enjoy all activities without having to supervise their kids,” says Club Med’s management. Club Med Bali provides Kids Clubs for two to 17 year-olds (Petit, Mini and Junior groups), led by Gracious Organisers (GOs) – a unique Club Med feature. A host of resort programmes and activities are provided, including Family Fairs, parent and children’s fun pursuits such as sandcastle contests. Baby-sitting services and baby equipment are also offered. Set in 20 hectares of lush gardens, Club Med Bali features charming traditional Balinese design and numerous facilities, plus water sports and sporting activities. Adults-only zones include the “Quiet Pool”, complementary access to the Turkish bath, sauna and Jacuzzi, plus the Mandara Spa. The Westin Resort Nusa Dua is endorsed by Holidays with Kids magazine’s accolade: “Top 10 Overseas Family Friendly Resort, 2010.” A US$13 million guestroom refurbishment completed in May includes 117-square-metre Family Suites comprising two bedrooms and a spacious family room with PlayStation, DVD player and dining area. “Parents with children can now indulge in a family suite with ample space for everyone to relax and reconnect,” says Bipan Kapur, the hotel resort’s general manager. Resort facilities run to a vast freshwater pool with a 12-metre water slide, saltwater pool and children’s pool, each with waterfall, floodlit tennis courts, extensive water sports, including reef snorkelling, and a spa with customised healing treatments administered indoors or outdoors. Complementary Westin Kids Club (four to 12 years) offers an outdoor playground with climbing wall, plus organised activities such as face painting, while Destination Club hosts family activities such as star-gazing and movie nights. Resembling a 1,500-square- metre sleek white spaceship, facilities include detox/oxygen room, wired with pure oxygen masks, post-treatment decompression lounge, chill bar and wet area with hot and cold plunge pools and hammam (Turkish bath). “Best Resort Spa in Asia-Pacific, 2011”, is one of several accolades for Ayana Resort’s Thermes Marins Bali Spa (TMBS), which offers ancient eastern healing therapies and modern European treatments. “Our objective is to be [the] pioneer of innovative treatments available only at Ayana,” says Spa director Michi Sonoda. Four signature treatments introduced this year offer a more holistic approach. Like Ayana, 22,000-square-metre TMBS is sensationally perched on cliffs above Jimbaran Bay.
