WelcomeGeneral Information

For all policies and procedures, visit us at www.dvc.edu/college4kids. Please review all policies online prior to registering your child. Our site can be translated via Google Translate into a number of languages for your convenience.

The College for Kids (CFK) program serves students entering grades 4 – 9 in the fall. We design our curricula to meet the needs of the general student population.

Parent Orientation: Parent orientations are only available for the Pleasant Hill campus due to the size of the campus and logistics. We are offering two options for orientations - one on May 5th and another on June 2nd - both from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Both parents and students must pre-register. Registration opens April 10th at www.dvc.edu/college4kids. You only need to register for one of the dates, not both. Parking permits are not required for Saturday orientations.

For San Ramon, parents will receive information regarding procedures for that campus prior to the first day via email.

Whether you cannot attend a scheduled orientation or if one is not available, parents are still encouraged to visit and tour the campus where their child will be attending prior to the first day of class. Please walk your child through the drop-off/pick-up procedures, how to get to each of their classes, the location of the nearest restrooms to their classrooms and where our office is located – L-146

Planning Your Child’s Summer:When reviewing the class details and planning your child’s summer with us, please make note of the dates, days, times, locations and fees listed for each camp. Our schedule format has changed from last summer. You may sign your child up for one, two or three classes each week, but classes must be consecutively scheduled – no breaks between classes. There is no supervision for students outside of class time. Students are not escorted to classes, to restrooms, water fountains or to/from the parking lots. Classroom staff will record absences for our office’s records. Please notify our office if your child will be late, absent, or picked up early. Our office will not contact families regarding any absences or late arrivals.

Scholarships Scholarships are available for qualifying students. More information and applications are available at www.dvc.edu/college4kids.

Refund PolicyFamilies who wish to drop a class for a full refund must do so no less than close of business day 7 days prior to the start date of the class (no partial refunds are given, this is a self-support program that relies on fees.) For example, a class that starts on June 19, must be dropped by close of business day on June 12. Please note that classes start on different weeks, which will change the drop deadline. Please allow 2 – 4 weeks to receive a refund, depending on payment method.

Transportation, Parking & Locations:Parents are entirely responsible for students' transportation.

Pleasant Hill Campus – 321 Golf Club Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523Drop off and pick up is limited to lots 1 and 3 on the Pleasant Hill Campus. Staff members will be at those locations before and after each period. Please keep in mind that College for Kids staff will not be at other locations. It is not required that you park your car in lots 1 or 3. We have coordinated with Police Services to allow a drive-thru procedure for lots 1 and 3 only. But, please be aware the drive-thru option is very time-consuming. It’s recommended that parents park and walk their children to the sidewalk where CFK staff are located. For the safety of kids and other pedestrians, please follow the directions from CFK staff and DVC Police to avoid injury or citations. Kids will be in the parking lots getting to and from class and they can be difficult to see from behind the wheel of your car. If DVC Police Services cites you for any reason, it is your responsibility alone, to resolve it.

San Ramon Campus – 1690 Watermill Road, San Ramon, CA 94582The drop off and pick up location is in the parking lot behind campus. Please keep in mind that College for Kids does not supervise students who are dropped off and/or picked up on the San Ramon campus. Parking permits are not required at the time of this publication.

Pick up Policy: Parents are expected to pick up their children no later than 15 minutes after their last class. Pleasant Hill campus students left unattended with a CFK staff member at lot 1 or 3 will be escorted to Police Services in LOT 1 for pick up. San Ramon campus students will remain with the CFK campus coordinator and will communicate with parents regarding pick up arrangements.

Pleasant Hill: If there is an unexpected emergency which will delay pick up, please call the College for Kids office at 925-969-4600 before 4:25 p.m. After 4:25 p.m., please call Campus Police at 925-969-2785. If your child’s last class for that day will be 1st or 2nd period, they will need to be signed out from our office – L-146. Parents are not permitted to pick-up their children from the classroom for safety reasons.

San Ramon: If there is an unexpected emergency which will delay pick up, please call the College for Kids office at (925) 969-4600. College for Kids will contact the San Ramon campus CFK coordinator to notify your child and provide alternate instructions for pick up.

Introduction to MATLAB and 3D PlottingModeling and simulation make a particular part of the world easier to define, visualize and understand. MATLAB, short for MATrix LABoratory is a programming package specifically designed for quick and easy scientific calcula-tions and input-output. It integrates computation, visual-ization, and programming in an easy-to-use environment where problems and solutions are expressed in familiar mathematical notation. You can simulate models for a wide range of applications using MATLAB. It has hun-dreds of built-in functions for a wide variety of computa-tions and many toolboxes designed for specific research disciplines. MATLAB has influence over many areas of hu-man technology from Artificial Intelligence to Aerospace and it used by engineers and scientists in many fields. In this workshop you will learn how to use MATLAB to build mathematical models and visualize the model. Students will be creating their own account with MATLAB software and will be able to continue at home if they wish.
