SOME AVAILABLE FREE BROWSERS
• To view the internet, a “browser” application is
required.
• A browser is a “user interface” to the internet.
• Windows PCs will have Internet Explorer (IE)
installed, but others can be downloaded and
used instead.
• Examples of other browsers available are:
BROWSER BASICS
� Address bar
� If you know the web address, type in here for IE:
� Search bar in IE
� Setting “Home” Page as Google or other in IE:
� Tools> Internet Options
� >Homepage
� Enter www.google.co.uk

SEARCHING & SEARCH ENGINES
� Search Engines>> Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc
� Search Words>> How to…, and,
� Search Results>> Are links to other websites
� Look at the website address of each “hit”>>� Check link, company and country, (.co.uk)... beware .com can
be from anywhere.
� Watch out for search
websites posing the
answer but just want
to divert you to buy
something else.
GET LOST?........USE TABS
� Getting lost by continual clicking on links?
� Solution: Use the “tab” facility on browsers:
� Puffin tabs
� IE tabs
� When clicking on a search link:
� Press down the mouse wheel on link until it clicks.
Click on new tab. Original tab is preserved.
� Or, right mouse click on link, and select “Open in
new tab”. Click on new tab.�
� Opera tabs
