The day on which the whole disk of moon is visible is ‘Full Moon Day’.
Every night, the size of the bright
part of the moon appears
to become thinner.
On the 15th day, the moon isn’t visible. This day
is known as ‘New Moon
Day’.
When only a small part of
moon is visible, it’s known as the Crescent moon.
The time period between one
full moon to the next full moon is
slightly longer than 29 days.
The various shapes of the bright part of the moon are called phases of the moon
The moon doesn’t produce its own
light , like the sun .
We see the moon because the
sunlight falling on it gets reflected .
We see only that part of the
moon , from which the light of
the sun is reflected .
The moon completes one rotation on its
axis as it completes a
revolution around he earth .
THE MOON’S SURFACE IS ROCKY OR BARREN.
THERE ARE MANY
CRATERS OF DIFFERENT
SIZES.
THE MOON ALSO HAS A
LARGE NUMBER OF STEEP HILL
AND MOUNTAINS. SOME ARE AS HIGH AS THE MT. EVEREST.
The sun and the celestial bodies that revolve around it form the solar system.
It consists of planets, comets, asteroids and meteors.
Now it’s called a dwarf star.
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
The gravitational pull of the sun keeps these objects
revolving.
Till 2006, Pluto was a planet of
the solar system.
There are eight planets in the solar system.
The sun is the nearest star from us.
It is continuously emitting huge amounts of heat
and light.
The Sun is the main source of heat & light for all the
planets.
Planets look like stars, but they don’t have
their own light.
A planet has a definite path in which it revolves around the sun called orbit. They also revolve on their own
axis.
Bodies revolving around planets are called natural
satellites. Man-made satellites are called artificial
satellites.
Any celestial body revolving around
another celestial body is called its satellite.
The Planets
Nearest planet to the sun
Smallest planet in the Solar System
No satellite of its own
Earth’s nearest planetary neighbour
Brightest planet in the night sky
Called a morning or an evening star
Rotates from East to West, unlike Earth
Only planet in which life is known to exist
Existence & continuation of life is due to special
environmental conditions
It has right temperature range, presence of water, suitable atmosphere and
ozone blanket
The earth has only one moon
First planet outside the Earth’s orbit
Because of its colour, it is also called Red Planet
Has two small natural satellites
Largest planet of the solar system
Its mass is 318 times of our Earth
It rotates very
rapidly on its axis
It has 67 confirmed
moons It has faint rings around it
Its rings make it unique & beautiful
It has 63 moons
Its density is lesser than water
They are the outermost planets of the solar system
Uranus rotates from East to West
So, in its orbital motion it appears to roll on its side
