Though Onuma lake has been a popular tourism spot for a long time because of its beautiful scenery, it has been polluted by over use of agricultural chemicals in cattle farming and erosion from abandoned forests with alien trees. President of Cooperative has bought a forest and wants to revive it to original nature with native trees! Tipologia di lavoro: We will remove some alien conifer trees that disturb growth of other plants and animals, make rafts with reeds and carbon fivers in the lake to purity the water and help the research of the water quality with some specialists. Note: Exchange parties, excursion, etc 3) Appi-kogen (Iwate) Data di inizio: 22 Lug 2015 Data fine: 28 Lug 2015 Tematica: 7: Bambini e giovani Tipologia di attività: Attività con bambini / Attività di soccorso Numero di volontari: 14 Lingua opzionale Inglese Descrizione: Organized together with Local group since 2012, a giant earthquake occurred in the eastern part of Japan on March 11th, causing unprecedented damage. 80% of the houses have gotten damaged by the earthquake in Rikuzentakata, and so many people still have to live in the temporary house. Kids could not enjoy the school playground because there are so many temporary houses. So we would like to give the chance for Kids to enjoy the outdoor activates in their vacation. Forestry, agriculture and fishing are used to be the main industry though they were severely damaged and may take several years to be rehabilitated.

They want to activate this town though having local events with volunteers, so they need many volunteers to run this festival. They have a summer vacation kids program called „Kodomo-mura‟ (Kids Village) with 30 kids aged 8-15 years of age. They play, cook and live in outdoor as they learn independence, sensitivity, group cooperation, global understanding and interest in different cultures. Volunteers need to be prepared to spend 24 hours with the kids for this period (except for a few days off). Tipologia di lavoro: We will help out and live together with kids in the Kids Village supporting activities and sharing your culture. We will encourage the kid‟s independence and creativity by letting them plan the schedule, so you will need to respect their ideas! There were 600 inhabitants in Ohara village with 90 houses, but now only 1 elder! OEP was founded by the Foresters cooperative and local people in 2006 and have rehabilitated 3 houses of cultural heritage. Lat year, we organized the first family international workcamp in Asia here with 19 participants of 6 families from 4 countries that was very successful, so decided to do it again! Tipologia di lavoro: We will 1) help to renovate the old house by carrying the stuff, changing the floor, etc., 2) do other work for the community (e.g., reviving the abandon fields, chopping the fire woods, repairing watercourse). Katsuyama is an agricultural city and famous for dinosaurs discovery and Ohara is located at 500 a.s.l. and famous for deep snow (4-5 meters) in winter! Note: We will also have Exchange parties, visit to the Dinosaurs Museum, excursion and trekking, etc. Some Japanese will join us as support staff for the children and the project. Regarding Participation Fees, 10,000 JPY per one child need to be paid on your arrivals. No fee for the parents!

Imabari city is depopulated area and they doesn‟t have much chance to have an international interact, which is important for kids growth to understand cultural diversity. Through this workcamp they hope that volunteer can activate local kids, people and community. Tipologia di lavoro: We will plan and organize international exchange program 2 times with different kids group in different place. Also we go to the sea and take care of kids to swim, picking garbage in beach. Parte studio: Activities of environmental protection for beach or any kinds of nature in each country. Bring some info.! Shirakami Mountains is one of Japanese valuable preserved natural forests consisting primarily of beech trees, registered as a World Natural Heritage in 1993. SNS has a summer vacation program for kids aged 7-12. Children will play, cook and live in the nature to grow their independence, cultivate sensitivity, and learn group cooperation. Volunteers need to be ready to spend 24 hours with kids during this period except some free times. Tipologia di lavoro: We will help out and live together with kids all the time in the summer program, such as supporting some activities in nature, and showing your culture, performance. Ubicazione approssimata: The Shirakami Mountains, located in the northern part of Honshu Island, is a huge mountainous area (130,000 hectares on the border between Aomori and Akita Prefectures). Shirakami, exchange parties, etc. 9) Aso (Kumamoto) Data di inizio: 01 Ago 2015 Data fine: 16 Ago 2015 Tematica: 13: Vita comunitaria Tipologia di attività: Agricoltura / Festival / Attività con bambini Numero di volontari: 12 Lingua opzionale Inglese Descrizione: Organized together with a local group formed for this project since 1998. The notorious religious group "Aum", who organized the sarin-gas attack on Tokyo subways in 1995, had tried to set up a base in Namino prior to 1995, despite the protests from the local community. Now, the area is COMPLETELY SAFE, as the community has eject them from the area, but is still damaged by a negative image. They want to revive the community and work towards defusing their negative by international workcamps. Tipologia di lavoro: We will be divided into 4-5 groups, help local farmers such as cutting brush and harvesting vegetables. We will prepare, run and clean up after the local summer festival. We will also join a kid‟s camp, which will be held in this village for few days. Unzen (Nagasaki) Data di inizio: 03 Ago 2015 Data fine: 23 Ago 2015 Tematica: 7: Bambini e giovani Tipologia di attività: Attività con persone anziane / Attività con bambini Numero di volontari: 10 Lingua opzionale Inglese Descrizione: Organized together with Unzen Social Welfare (a semi-governmental) Association since 1994. Unzen is located in the west part of Japan, there is a rich natural environment facing the sea and mountain town. However, the town has been lost active community participation due to the declining birthrate and aging population. The past workcamps were quite successful in encouraging Kids camp that is held for some days to promote volunteering and international friendship with about 20 local kids aged 10-18. Tipologia di lavoro: We will organize and run the Kids room (7-12 years old) during their summer vacation, Kids room will open the 9:00-17:00, volunteer give the variety international games for them. And we run 2-3 days international exchange program with about 20 local girls and boys within the ages of 10 to 15. Parte studio: 1. Note: Exchange parties and Cultural workshop etc. 11) Hanawa (Fukushima) Data di inizio: 04 Ago 2015 Data fine: 18 Ago 2015 Tematica: 12: Arte, cultura e storia locale Tipologia di attività: Arte / Festival Numero di volontari: 10 Lingua opzionale Inglese Descrizione: Organized together with KOBOSHA, a local NPO for community planning, since 1996. We will join the summer festival called „TORO NAGASHI‟ that is a memorial service for an ancestor by making a lantern and floating it down a river. We will make large TORO (2 x 2 meters) for the festival in this workcamp. We aim to mobilize the area with workcamps. Through workcamps, the

local community will be much more activated, redeveloping pride for their community and revival FUKUSHIMA! Tipologia di lavoro: We will mainly help and join the festival by making four big lanterns „TORO‟ (2 x 2 meters) and hundreds of small lanterns together with local students. You can design your own large „TORO‟ in this festival. It will be physically challenging work. Note: You have also home stay, sports, exchange parties, etc. Japanese volunteers will join from 08/02. 12) Tohoku-Rokkasho (Aomori) Data di inizio: 04 Ago 2015 Data fine: 17 Ago 2015 Tematica: 10: Protezione dell'ambiente Tipologia di attività: Agricoltura / Ambiente Numero di volontari: 6 Lingua opzionale Inglese Descrizione: Organized together with Tohoku Ashitanomori(TA) since 2011 (but first time for the short term with NICE) , this is the second international workcamp. TA is a NPO runnning organic farming and agricultural practice. Rokkasho village is known by nuclear fuel processing facility, but TA set up the mission to set up the eco village only. We aim to farming through workcamp, also conservation these mountain to save water, and activate the area. Tipologia di lavoro: We will work in the farm doing activities, constructing small water power generator, constructing hen-house by which we can contribute to eco village framing. Hagi is a tourist destination old town remains as a castle town. In spite of the town‟s wonderful local heritage and coal pit history, depopulation is a serious problem here similarly with many other parts of the country side in Japan. AWSC try to activate the local community base at the closed school. We aim to support the activities and bring the global power for the community. We will visit the local elderly facility to have the exchange program. They try to invite the family and Kids, sometimes we join the family and Kids program. Tokushima prefecture has one of the most popular festival colled “Awa Odori festival”. Also in summer an activity along “Shinmachi river” is loved by local people. They want to activate this town though having local events with volunteers. Honjo area in Awara city is famous for Fujino Genkuro, who is benefactor of Luxun to learn medical science in Japan. This group try to make international community space in this area and organize cross-cultural understanding programs for children. Even though 70% of Japan‟s land is forested, the forests are not properly maintained, as there is a lack of investment in the health and ecology of these ecosystems since imported wood is much cheaper. Over 90% of our forests are not virgin forests and cannot be left as “nature”, so it is important to provide continuing care for our forests. Maki Farm has 5-10 members and is located in a very isolated area (not accessible for cars and we have to walk 4 km in the mountains), so once it became an abandon village in 1970s. Descrizione: Organized together with Local group since 2012, a giant earthquake occurred in the eastern part of Japan on March 11th, causing unprecedented damage. 80% of the houses have gotten damaged by the earthquake in Rikuzentakata, and so many people still have to live in the temporary house. Kids could not enjoy the school playground because there are so many temporary houses. So we would like to give the chance for Kids to enjoy the outdoor activates in their vacation. Ms Kanazawa grows rice, vegetables and chickens for eggs. She is inviting volunteers to help her with farming and daily housework. Work: The volunteer helps at the farm. He/She is also expected to coordinate weekend workcamps. The volunteer gets a day off per week plus extra 5 days off during his/her service. Requirements: * Speak basic Japanese or motivated to learn it at least to communicate with Ms Kanazawa as she doesn't speak English * Interested in organic farming and love animals. * S/he has to be able to work voluntarily.

It was established by Ms Takako Uzu in 2004. Over 20 people including disturbed children, teenagers on probation and relocated kids from Fukushima lead a self-sustained, environmentally-friendly life. The first SCI workcamp was held there in August 2009. A short-term workcamp has been organized in August every year since then. Work: * Organic farming: weeding in the rice and vegetable, cutting thatch, making non-tilled soil, etc. * Daily housekeeping work * The volunteer gets a day off per week plus 5 days off during his/her service. Requirements: * Motivated to learn organic farming and to live a big family like environment. * Interested in an environmentally sustainable life-style and children. Food: Mostly vegetarian food is provided. Accommodation: A 100-year-old big farm house. Sometimes LTV has to share a room with a volunteer from WWOOF.
