1. Introduction

1.1 Welcome

Welcome to the Scia Design Forms Installation Guide. Scia Design Forms is a program running under Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7.

This manual describes the procedures for a correct installation of the application.

1.2 System Requirements

To install Scia Design Forms it is recommended that your system qualifies the following requirements:

1.2.1 Hardware

Processor Pentium IV - 3Ghz (Advised: CoreDuo2 3 Ghz and higher)

RAM 2 GB (Advised: > 4 GB)

Graphics Controller 256 MB, supporting OpenGL

Disk space for installation, projects and temporary files

100MB

Minimum resolution 1280 x 800

1.2.2 Software

Scia Engineer on Macintosh To run the Scia Engineer software on Mac OS X virtualization software has to be used. Parallels

Desktop 7 is recommended for this. When Parallels Desktop 7 is used, a Windows

operating system may be installed as a virtual machine and Windows applications are used

alongside Mac OS X applications. In this way, the user has 2 operating systems at the same

time.

Tryout installation

A FlexNET service will run on: Windows XP 32 bit Windows Vista 32/64 bit Windows 2008 server 64 bit Windows 7 - 32/64 bit

It is advised to install the latest Service Pack for these Operating Systems except

SP3 for Windows XP.

2. Installation of Scia Design Forms

This chapter describes the procedure to install Scia Design Forms.

The installation procedure consists of the following steps:

2.1 Installation of Scia Design Forms

1. Download and execute SciaDesignForms_setup.exe

2. In the dialog box which appears, select the language for installation:

3. The Welcome screen for installation appears. Press [Next] to continue.

4. In the dialog Choose Destination Location the folder where the files will be installed can be specified. By default the destination folder is created in Program Files. It is advised to use this default location.

Press [Next] to continue.

5. In the dialog Protection settings the default values for the protection settings can be set. a) for standard soft-lock protection or for tryout version select Local softlock / Try-out version option

Keep the option Run Activation manager when setup is finished checked!


b) for the license protected by hardware key select Only dongle option Sentinel key drive will be installed automatically.

6. The last window shows an overview of the selected settings. Press [Install] to start the installation process.

7. Continue by activation of your license. Follow steps described in chapters 2.2 or 2.3

8. After installation, the message appears that Scia Design Forms has been installed successfully. Press [Finish] to end the installation procedure.

2.2 Installation of soft-lock protection (including tryout version)

1. The license ID is stored in a .lid-file, which will be sent by email. In this file the authorization code used by the soft-lock protection is stored.

2. Execute the Scia Activation Manager from the Start menu: All Programs/Scia License Server/Activation Manager

A shortcut to this application can be found on your desktop as Activation manager.

Press [Read Licence ID]

The license ID is stored in a SCIAx.lid file, where x represents your license number.

Select your SCIAx.lid file and press [Open]

3. Your license file appears in the Activation manager. Select your license number and press [Activate licence]

4. The circle in front of the license number will become green and the license file has been activated.

Press [Close]

Note:

When using the license file on another computer, it is necessary to deactivate the license file on the previous server.

Execute the Activation Manager

Select the License file number and press [Return License]

Press [Close]

2.2.1 Scia Design Forms Protection setup

1. If you follow installation steps correctly, then no changes for the protection setup are needed. However, the Protection setup is possible to check or change by Protection setup manager Run program Protection Setup from menu Start / All programs / Scia Design Forms

2. Set the license type to Only floating or to Try-out and press the button [Apply/Refresh] There are displayed your commercial modules in Available commercial modules window. Be sure, that all modules which you want to use are checked. All changes have to be confirmed by [Apply/Refresh] or by [OK] buttons.

2.3 Installation of hard-lock protection (dongle)

1. The license ID is stored in your hardware key. Commercial modules related to your license will be downloaded automatically from Nemetschek Scia server.

2. The hardware key drive is installed automatically. Connect you hardware key to you computer via the USB port.

3. Run program Protection Setup from menu Start / All programs / Scia Design Forms

4. Set the license type to Only standalone and press the button [Apply/Refresh]

5. Press Import license file. Your commercial modules are downloaded from Nemetschek Scia server. Be sure, that all modules which you want to use are checked. All changes have to be confirmed by [Apply/Refresh] or by [OK] buttons.

Note:

Importing of the commercial modules requires the Internet connection. If it is not available, please, ask your provider to send you the license file for the hard lock protection - SCIAxx.LIC file, where xx represents your license ID.

Press [Import license file] button to load your commercial modules. Confirm the changes by [Apply/Refresh] or by [OK] button.
