Purpose: The purpose of the Strategic Group is to: • Ensure an integrated and planned approach to the development and delivery of high quality PE,
PA & School Sport in West Lothian and to ensure a structured pathway exists from participation to performance
(2) Aims and Objectives
1) Support & develop School Sport across West Lothian from participation to performance • Provide a policy lead to guide the work of the SSP working group on all aspects of school sport,
including 1) Competition 2) Education and training 3) Volunteering & 4) Facility access, supporting school to club links
• Provide clear guidance and support to SSP working groups on developing sporting and physical activity opportunities within schools, whilst building sustainable links to the community
2) Support the implementation of policies relating to a 3-18 Physical Education Programme • Explore the potential for a lead position to develop PE in West Lothian • Establish support for the sharing of good practice through the PE network and SSP cluster groups • Work towards a planned approach to the education and training programme and the delivery to
staff & volunteers
3) Support the implementation of school sport policies • Establish ‘School Sport Policies’ and disseminate to all involved in school sport, where
appropriate using existing support groups and networks such as EdWeb • Continue to support the sharing of good practice through the school sport network
(3) Scope of Strategic Group To ensure parameters of the strategic group are set and responsibility is devolved for practical development and implementation to the working groups
(4) Reporting
Report to PDSP (Education and Culture and Leisure) Disseminate reports to all partners within SSP (6 Monthly)

(5) Success Criteria of Project (Evaluated Annually)
• Establish improved links and more integrated planning between P.E, school sport & the wider community
• Ensure desired outcomes from the strategic & operational planning groups are integrated within relevant P.E and Sport & Outdoor Education plans
• Calendar of events for both primary and secondary successfully delivered, with participation rates increased and pathways to competition a natural progression
• Successful partnership working between Physical Education (P & S), Active Schools, Sports Development & Community Clubs to develop and implement all aspects of school sport to a high standard.
• Provide a relevant programme of Education & Training for staff and volunteers

School Sport Partnership Protocol 2011/2012
Competition Formats The formats will be decided by PE staff at all the meetings – 1 per year. Plus 1 review meeting. Venues Most if not all venues will be decided by school staff. Chris Weitz will decide venues if an alternative needs to be found. Timing Chris Weitz will plan suitable dates during the summer break. PE staff will have final decision at the first meeting of the year. Declaration of Interest - ONLINE Chris Weitz will send out a Declaration of Interest 2 times per year, once in August and again in January. Competition Entry All Secondary Competitions will be moved to online entry where possible (similar to Track and Field and Cross Country) Deadlines Deadlines will be firm but fair. The online entry will close on the closing date (same as Track and Field and Cross Country) Prizes/Incentives Upon completion of a series of competitions, trophies and medals will be awarded to the winners. The 3 trophies for 1st to 3rd
still remain in place for the Secondary Schools Sports League.
Secondary Schools Sports League All schools invited to take part in the competitions that make up the league. For those that are unable to follow the rules they will be allowed to compete but not score points.
