What is it?
A non-weighted test to:
• gauge pupils’ readiness level to face the P5 demand
and rigour
• identify learning gaps that may hinder the
progress of learning new concepts

All subjects (Standard and Foundation)

- Mother Tongue

What happens after the test?
• Pupils needing support to
bridge the learning gap will be
identified.
• They will attend Banded
Remediation Lessons in Term 2.
• Those who are not identified
may choose to take part in
preparatory stage for selected
competitions.
What is BandedRemediation?
• Pupils are grouped according to
their areas for improvement and
targeted remediation will take place
on Monday and/or Tuesday
afternoons (from 2.15 p.m. to 3.45
p.m.)
• A pupil may be scheduled to attend
more than one subject for
remediation lesson.

A child is strongly advised to
stay in school while waiting for
his/her lesson to start.
How do we measure the
effectiveness of the
Banded Remediation?
• Pupils who attended the
remediation in Term 2 will
have their results
monitored in SA1.
What happens to
the other pupils in Term 2?
• To cater to every child’s needs, pupils who
are not identified for Banded Remediation
will have an option to attend preparation
work for competitions.
A child may attend Banded
Remediation for a particular subject
and preparation work for another
subject.
What type of competitions
will my child go through?
• The school will identify a few
competitions such as Young
Investigators’ Award, Environment
Challenge for Schools.
• These competitions will provide
opportunities for the application of
knowledge and skills.
• Value the learning from the process (Not
to win awards)
How many competitions will
my child be allowed
to take part in?
• Every child who is deemed ready
will only be allowed to
participate in one competition
preparation to maximise
participation for the cohort.
Is my child required to pay
for the preparation/ training
or competitions?
• If the preparation/ training sessions
are run by vendors, your child may be
required to pay a subsidized amount of
training fee.
• If competition fees are required, this
will be borne by the school.
What happens in Term 3?
• All P5 pupils will be
required to attend banded
supplementary/remedial
lessons after school.
What is Banded Supplementary?
• Pupils are grouped according to their
ability.
• Pupils will be taught subject-specific
skills pitched at their level.
• EL – Comprehension
• Math – heuristics
• Science – process skills
• MT – skills-based
