CAN BE THAT GREAT GENERATION.

This is an extremely special occasion for me. The pride I feel right now is beyond words. I remember 14 years ago, standing in Moshono, looking over the empty land where our primary campus is now located.

If you had told me then, as I stood there planning to build a small school, that I’d soon be watching 61 students graduate from Form 6, and that thousands of other students would soon be following their footsteps, I would’ve told you it was impossible. But I have learnt something very important. All things are possible.

This 2015 inaugural graduation is an important milestone, but not only for me. It is also important the people who helped place the first bricks, for all the Rotary Clubs that got on board without hesitation and for all the people who believed in the vision and sent over their hard earned money so we could buy books, pens, food and buses. It’s important for the teachers

who have worked tirelessly to ensure students are always engaging, learning and reaching their full potential, all the non-academic staff both past and present who have worked so hard for the mission of the school and for all the parents and family members who are today full of pride and hope as they watch one of their own become a leader. Today is important for so many people and most of all, it is important for you. Our 61 first ever, Form 6 graduates.

Years of working hard and challenging yourselves has allowed you to reach this milestone and I’m so incredibly proud.

I can’t wait to see what your future holds. I’m looking forward to the day when I run into you and find out you’re working in the community as medical professionals, educators, engineers, business owners and leaders.

Whatever you end up doing after St Jude’s, I know you will go forward with this gift of knowledge and you will use it as best you can by being a good example and having a positive impact on those around you. You now have the opportunity to help improve not only your own lives, but the lives of your families, your community and the whole of Tanzania.

I hope you always have compassion for people and a drive to be the best person you can be. Continue to work hard and create change. No matter where life takes you, I hope you never forget where you came from and that all things are possible. St Jude’s will always be your home.

FROM GEMMA

The School of St Jude is one of the few institutions in Tanzania where promising, yet disadvantaged Students can make the most of a free, high-quality education.

Generous and ongoing support from individuals and organisations from around the world has allowed St Jude’s to provide an education for up to 150 additional students each and every year, since 2002.

It is thanks to all of our passionate supporters who have faith in education and our founder Gemma Sisia’s ambitious pursuit of it, almost 2000 current students are on their way to a future educated leaders.

Gemma’s belief that a free, high-quality education should be the right of all children in the world, as well as a weapon in the fight against poverty, corruption and political instability, was the solid foundation on which The School of St Jude dream started.

She raised enough money to start an official fund to invest in the education of East Africa’s poorest children, and when the local Sisia family gifted a small plot of land in Arusha, building began with the help of friends, family and Rotary groups.

The school doors first opened to just three students and one volunteer teacher in 2002.

From that day, the school has maintained close links to the Arusha community and employs more than 350 local staff. Products for meals, uniforms, buildings and furnishings are also bought locally, to support the community and economy as much as possible.

Word of The St Jude’s dream has continued to spread across the globe since then, and the school and our students continue to be thankful for the opportunities provided.

In 2015 a proud new chapter in our story is about to begin, with the first senior Form 6 class to graduate.

HOW WE GOT HERE

Dear School of St Jude,

We are greatly indebted to extend our very sincere thanks and appreciation for your overwhelming kindness and unfading effort to support the education of this young generation of Tanzania.

We deeply understand how much the school has done for every one of us to reach this high peak in our life. Everyone in this society has played a significant role in molding us into the people we are today.

The memories of beauty and challenges that we all have shared through the time will remain a melody in our hearts and fountain of love and joy in where ever we shall place our footprints.

To our teachers: thank you for opening the doors of your classrooms to let us brighten our lives through your guidance and overwhelming kindness. We cherish you in our hearts.

To our sponsors and donors: you have been so wonderful in supporting us in sharing the joys and triumphs with the world? You have changed our histories and now we have voices in our society. We love you very much.
