Placement of the Year
Awards Ceremony
The ceremony was held on November 5th 2014 at 2pm
in the Lecturer Theatre at the Undergraduate Medical
School Royal Stoke University Hospital site.
The audience was made-up of the students who put
forward mentor and placement nominations combined
with the nominated mentors and representatives from
each of the clinical teams nominated (as well as lectur-
ing staff and senior people from all three Trust sites).
Nominations were put forward for staff and placements
from across the three local NHS Trust sites Royal Stoke
University Hospital, Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent
Partnership NHS Trust and North Staffordshire Com-
bined Healthcare NHS Trust - as well as the local Inde-
pendent and Private sector.
Fifty nominations were put forward for Mentor of the
Year and twenty nominations for Placement of the Year.
Pauline Walsh, Head of the School of Nursing and Mid-
wifery, then presented the Awards to the Finalists.
The mentor of the Year received a £50 cheque and the
Placement of the Year received £100 to spend on
educational materials for the clinical area. Every men-
tor and placement nominated received a certificate in
recognition of their achievement.
Pauline Walsh (pictured), Head of the School of Nurs-
ing and Midwifery at Keele University, and Kate Hack-
ett, Senior Nurse: Education and Workforce Develop-
ment at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, both gave
presentations at the ceremony, talking about the
importance of nurse mentors for the future of the
nursing profession

Third Place was Sarah Birks from the
Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership
NHS Trust and she was nominated by
student nurse Francesca Surrell
First Place went to the Parent
& Baby Unit at North
Staffordshire Combined
Healthcare NHS Trust and
they were nominated by
student nurse Alexa Carney

Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership NHS
