School of Library Science of Delhi Library Association organized its Diamond Jubilee Celebration on 10th March 2015 in Ranganathan Bhawan. Mr. M L Kachroo extended a very warm welcome to DLA`s old students and Faculty who had gathered in large member. Prof C P Vashishth, President of the Association & Principal of School of Library Science gave a brief history and account of the activities of School of Library Science founded in 1955. Mr. A P GUPTA did his C.Lib.Sc. in 1967-68 & PG Diploma in

(DU).

A P GUPTA has worked for about 40 years in different

libraries starting from Safdar Jang Hospital Library from April

1969 to March 1975. After that he worked in Management

Development Institute Library, Gurgaon from March 1975 and retired from there in July 2008 as Dy.

Librarian. After retirement from MDI, he worked at NIMS (Netaji Institute of Mgt. Sc.) Library for the

period August 2008 to January 2011. During this period he attended various training programmes ,

seminars etc organised by different organisations.

He is Life Member of Delhi Library Association and MANLIBNET and has remained associated with DLA

in various capacities.

Mr. Arun Kumar Shalia (born on 22 December 1950)

did Certificate course in Library Science in the year

1972 and Post-Graduate Diploma in Library science in

1976-77 from the School of Library Science run by

Delhi Library Association. After that he did B.L.I.Sc.

(Punjabi University Patiala) and M.L.I.Sc. and M Phil

from Anna Malai University Madras and apart from

this he also did double MA in Public Administration

and Political Science.

He started his professional career by joining Indian Council of World Affairs as Library Assistant in 1973.

He also served for some time in Indian Institute of Technology Delhi as cataloguer and Bharat Heavy

Electricals Limited as cataloguer. In December 1975 he joined New Delhi Municipal Council as its Library

& Information Officer and retired in December 2010.

Mr. Shalia is an active member of DLA since 1976. He has held the office of Member of Executive

Committee, Vice-President, Treasurer, Chairman/Convener of Finance Committee, Building Construction

Committee etc .

Mr. Shalia is also associated with a number of other library organizations like DELNET, RRC, ILA etc. and

attended a number of conferences & seminars.

Ms. Asha Bajaj (born on 1st May 1942) did MA (Pol

Science) from Rajasthan University in 1977. She did

Post-Graduate Diploma in Library Science from

School of Library Science of Delhi Library

Association in the year 1974-75 and B Lib Sc from

Andhra Pradesh Open University in 1990. She is Life

Member of Delhi Library Association. She joined

PUSA Library IARI in 1963 as a cataloguer. She

retired in 2002 as Technical Assistant in T6 grade.

She was member of Executive of Delhi library

association during 2001-03 term.

Mr Ashok Thakur (born on 23rd July 1960 in Delhi)

did M A (Hindi) from Meerut University in 1980, M A

(Political Science) from University of Rajasthan in

1984, MLIS from IGNOU in 1990, B.Ed. in 2011 from

Techno Global University, Shillong. He did C Lib Sc

and Post-Graduate Diploma in Library Science from

School of Library Science of Delhi Library Association

in the year 1977 and 1983-84 respectively. He is Life

Member of Delhi Library Association. He was

member of its Executive for two terms during 2001-

03 and 2003-05. He is also a Life Member of Indian Library Association. He wrote a book entitled ^^gekjs

Mr D R Mann (born on 1st November 1966) is MA in Sociology. He is M Lib Sc and has

done Diploma in Russian. He is an alumni of the School of Library Science of Delhi

Library Association from where he did Certificate Course in Library Science. He is

currently working as Drawing and Disbursement Officer in the National Accreditation

Board. Prior to this he was Librarian in AICTE, New Delhi. He has been intimately

associated with the activities of Delhi Library Association. He was Member of the Executive Committee

of DLA for two terms during 2003- 5 and 2009-11. He was Secretary of the Association during 2005-7;

2009-11 and 2011-13. He has been co-opted as Member of Executive Committee of DLA for 2013-15

term.

Mr. Hari Dass (born on 10th December 1966) graduated from IGNOU. He did C Lib Sc from School of Library Science run by Delhi Library association. Further he did B Lib I Sc from IGNOU and M Lib I Sc from Madurai Kamaraj University. He is Semi Professional Assistant in Rajdhani College Library (University of Delhi). Currently he is on

deputation as Librarian in Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, Ministry of Power, New Delhi. Mr. Joginder Singh was born in Lahore District (now in Pakistan). At the time of the partition of India he migrated from Lahore to Delhi. His love for libraries started during his tenure at the Central Institute of Education, Delhi, where he served between April 1949 to February 1951. When UNESCO initiated the Pilot Project of the Delhi Public Library, he was selected to serve with their Library Consultant. He joined the United States Information Agency Library (now Public Affairs Section of the US Department of State) in New Delhi, India in 1951. He worked for the American Library for 32 years, last 10 years as the Library Director. He was recognized in 1967 with his first Meritorious Honor Award by the USIA. The Economic Times of November 15, 1981 and the Times of India of January 11, 1982 commended Joginder Singh’ professionalism as well as his leadership qualities and valuable service provided by the American Library, New Delhi to its patrons. At the time of his retirement in 1983, he received his second Meritorious Honor Award from the USIA. After his retirement, he started his volunteer work, when he was asked by the President of the Indian Library Association to serve as Library Consultant at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie, India, between 1984 and 1987, to revive their Library, which had been gutted in a fire. In 1985 he compiled and edited the Fourth Edition of the Indian library directory, published by the Indian Library Association, under a grant from the Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India. He immigrated to USA in 1985 with his wife of 69 years now, Mrs. Surjan Kaur. Joginder Singh started his volunteer work in the United States, first with the Public School System, followed by his appointment to the Montgomery County Library Board in 1994, where he served as a Member, Vice Chair and Chair, for about six years. In 1999, he was appointed as a member of the Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board for two three-year terms. He continues to serve as a Member and Chair of the Germantown (Montgomery County) Library Advisory Committee. In May 2007, Joginder Singh’s volunteer work was recognized by the Maryland Library Association with an “Outstanding Volunteer Award” which was presented to him at the Annual Conference of the Association in Ocean City, Maryland, USA. Joginder Singh was named as a "Library Superhero" by the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA in recognition of his support to the Montgomery County Libraries. A READ poster with his favorite book Robert Frost's Complete Poems was created and was on display in all of the Montgomery County Libraries. Currently, he is serving on the library board of Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA library and enjoying his time with his family. Mr. Joginder Singh is an Alumni of the School of Library Science of Delhi Library Association from where

he did his Certificate course in Library Science. DLA is proud of his achievements.

Mrs. Madhu Sharma (born on 14 October 1957) is double MA in

Hindi in Public Administration from Rajasthan University, Jaipur.

She did C.Lib.Sc. from Delhi Library Association in 1974 and PG Diploma in Library Science from DLA in

1976-77. She began her professional career from INSDOC (now NISCAIR) in 1977 and worked there till

1979. She shifted to Ministry of Steel and Mines, Government of India and worked there till 1983. In

1984 she joined Parliament Library, Government of India in 1984 as Senior Library Assistant. In 1996 she

was promoted as Research Assistant. After 3 year she was further promoted as Research officer. She

worked as Deputy Director for 3 years. Currently she is joint Director in the Parliament Library.

Ms Madhu Sharma`s entire family is of librarians. Her father was also an alumni of DLA and worked as School Librarian in Directorate of Education, Delhi. Her brother and two sisters are also alumni of DLA School of Library Science. DLA is proud of her achievements .

Mr. Madhukar Rao (born on 3rd September 1953)

received his school education from DPS Mathura

Road, Delhi. He did B. Com (Pass) from Delhi

University and M. Com (Business Admn.) from

Meerut University, P.G. Diploma (BM) (MBA) from

YMCA, Delhi, C. Lib. Sc. & P.G. Dip. Lib. Sc. from

Delhi Library Association, B.L.I.S. from A.P.O.U.

Hyderabad, M.L.I.S. from Madras University,

Chennai, DHMS (DHB) from Indore University and

LL.B. from C.C.S.U. Meerut. He worked in an

illustrious historical Public library known as Hardayal Municipal Public Library, Delhi for 42 years in

different positions and got superannuated as a librarian (HOD) IN September 2013. Now engaged in

different NGO’s and Practicing as an Advocate. He is Life member of ILA, DLA, member of HCBA &

D.B.A. K.K.D.C. DELHI.

Mr. Man Singh (born on 9th July 1941) did Certificate

course in Library Science in 1962 from School of Library

Science of Delhi Library Association. He completed

education upto Intermediate level in 1963 from Panjab

University. He joined Library Profession on 13th

November 1963 and worked for over 37 years as School

Librarian in Delhi Directorate of Education. He retired

from Government service on 31st July 2001. He

performed exemplary work in Librarianship. He has been

Life Member of Delhi Library Association since 1961. In 2005 -07 he became a Patron Member of DLA.

Mr. Munish Tyagi (born on 1st January 1949) did MA (Pol. Sc) in 1972 from Meerut University. He did C

Lib Sc course from Uttar Pradesh Library Association and Post Graduate Diploma in Library Science from

Delhi Library Association in 1973. He joined Jawaharlal Nehru University Library, New Delhi as Semi

Professional Assistant in 1972 and got promoted to Professional Assistant in 1995. In 2007 he became

Assistant Librarian in the same University and retired in 2008.

Dr. Nirmal Kumar Khatri was born on 18th October, 1952

in a small village of Haryana. He did his M.A. (Economics)

from University of Rajasthan and M Lib Sc & Ph D from

Annamalai University. He is associated with Delhi Library

Association since 1981 and winner of Dikshit-

Ranganathan Medal for standing first in Post- Graduate

Diploma in Library Science (1981-82). Dr Khatri started his

professional career with the Indian Statistical Institute,

Delhi Centre as a Library Assistant in 1976, and progressed in his career to the position of Associate

Scientist and retired in 2012. He also served as Librarian (1997-1998) at National Institute of Public

Finance and Policy, New Delhi. Dr Khatri organized National Workshop in the year 2012 on 'Using

Different Metrics for Assessing Research Productivity'. Published research papers in journals and

conferences of both national and international and edited the Workshop Proceedings "Metrics Based

Research Assessment and Evaluation" and Compiled the book "Twenty Years of Library Herald: A

Cumulative Index to Volume 1-20 (1958/59 to 1981/82)". He had served on the editorial board (2010-

2012) of 'Gyankosh: the Journal of Library and Information Management'. Dr Khatri represented Indian

Statistical Institute on Bureau of Indian Standards Committee-MSD5 (Documentation and Informational

Sectional Committee (2010-2012). Nominated Co-Guide (2007-2009) for supervising the dissertation

work of AIS students of NISCAIR. He is leading force behind success of Ranganathan Research Circle- a

well known leading library association in Delhi. He organized RRC monthly lectures, annual conventions,

Ranganathan birthday celebration and Memorial Lectures of late Shri C V SubbaRao. He visited China,

Macau and Hong Kong University Library in the year 2013. Life member of DLA, ILA and IASLIC. Senior

member and Convener of Ranganathan Research Circle and member of Special Library Association

(America).

Mr. N L Balani (born on 8th June 1942 in

Hyderabad-Sind Pakistan) graduated from the

University of Delhi. He did C Lib sc and Post-

Graduate Diploma in Library Science from School

of Library Science of Delhi Library Association in

the year 1971 and 1981-82 respectively. He

served in the Library of Indian Institute of

Technology Delhi for 38 years and retired on 30th

June 2002. He is Life Member of Delhi Library

Association and takes keen interest in its

activities. He is also associated/Member of

Ranganathan Research Circle, Delhi and participates in its monthly meetings regularly. He has interest in

socializing and meeting regularly with professional colleagues.

Dr. R K Sharma is presently working with the

United Nations Information Centre for India and

Bhutan (UNIC) as its Librarian since June 1995. Prior

to this, he was Librarian at National Institute of

Public Finance and Policy(NIPFP), New Delhi.

Earlier, he had worked with the Delhi University

Library System(DULS) before joining NIPFP. Dr

Sharma has so far, served the library profession for

more than 35 years – 19 years in the UN System

and more than 16 years with the national institutions, and has had the unique privilege of working with

various libraries attached to some of the most prestigious academic, research and international

organizations.

Born in 1956 in Delhi, he earned PhD degree in Library & Information Science from Dr H S Gour Central

University in 1995, and has undergone several advanced training programmes in Library & Information

Management in India and abroad. He did his MLISc (Dr H S Gour Central University, 1985), BLISc

(Sambalpur University, 1981) and CLIBSc and Post Graduate Diploma in Library Science from Delhi

Library Association in 1975 and 1977 respectively.

Dr. Sharma has travelled abroad to Canada, Singapore, Thailand, UK, and USA and enjoyed the company

of people coming from different walks of life. He is one of the few recipients of the US Fulbright

Scholarship (1993), which is given to professionals with outstanding achievements. Under Fulbright

programme, he audited few courses at the Graduate School of Library & Information Science, Simmons

College, Boston, USA and completed his internship with world famous libraries of the Harvard

University, MIT and Boston University.

Dr Sharma is a member / life member of various national and international professional associations

like DLA, ILA, ASIALA, MANLIBNET, SLP, SLA-USA. Presently, he is holding position of Senior Vice-

President of the Delhi Library Association (2013-2015). He has served as an Associate Editor of the DLA’s

journal Library Herald (2008-2012). He was Chair – Editorial Board, SLA- Asian Chapter for one year

(2013). As an active senior professional, he has served on many selection committees as a library

expert. He has also organized several seminars, conferences and workshops and chaired several

technical sessions at the national and international seminars, conferences and workshops. Dr Sharma

has contributed a number of research papers in refereed journals and edited many books. His interests

are library & information management, computerization of library information services, web-based

library services. He is always keen to explore further means of co-operation by which he could

contribute to the information society at large.

Mr Ratan Singh Mor (born on 10th February 1949) received his BA degree from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra in 1972. He pursued Certificate course in Library Science in 1974 and Post-Graduate Diploma in Library Science from School of Library Science

of Delhi Library Association in 1977. He joined Indian Council of World Affairs Library, Sapru House, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi in April 1974 as Library Clerk and retired as Semi Professional Assistant from there in 2009.

Dr S K Bajpai, MA (Agra), MLIS, Ph D.

(University of Delhi) Started his career as PG

Teacher in Geography at Hamid Ali

Intermediate College Pihani Hardoi (UP) in

1971. He shifted to Delhi in 1973, and Joined

DLA School of Library Science for doing C Lib

Sc in 1973. He secured 1st position in C Lib Sc

Examination and was awarded Prof S

Dasgupta Memorial Medal . He joined

Department of Library Science, Delhi

University for doing B Lib Sc in 1975. After passing B Lib Sc he joined College of Vocational Studies

Library, University of Delhi as its Professional Assistant in 1975. He was appointed Librarian in 1985 in

the same College after completing MLIS from Delhi University. He obtained PhD in LIS from Delhi

University in 2000.

Apart from Librarianship, Dr Bajpai has taken keen interest in various activities for the over all

development of the College. He was, therefore, assigned various important positions i.e. Convener

,Library Committee, Member Admission Committee, Dy Superintendent (Examination), Teacher in

charge Educational tours, Teacher In-charge Placement Cell etc. Dr Bajpai has written 6 Books on Library

and Information Science and 2 Books on Tourism. He has supervised 6 M Phil dissertations in LIS

awarded by Annamalai University.

Dr Bajpai has been associated as Academic Counselor in IGNOU teaching programme of Library Science

and Tourism. He has been on the faculty of School of Library Science of DLA. He has held various offices

in DLA Executive Committee since 2003. Presently, he is Vice President of Delhi Library Association.

Mr Sanjeev Kumar Sharma (M.Sc., M.Com.,M.LISc and PGDCA) was born on 14th January 1974. Presently he is working as Librarian in Rajdhani College (University of Delhi) since 2008. Prior to this he has also served as Librarian in Salwan (Boys) School, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi and DAV, Chitra Gupta Road, New Delhi. He is throughout first class in his professional qualifications. He has contributed articles in library science and authored a book entitled “World Great Noble Laureates” He is actively associated with DAV Management and is also Principal Coordinator of DAV

Institute of Management & Vocational Studies, New Delhi. He has been teaching there Library and

Society, Records of Library, Cataloguing theory and practice papers. He has been awarded certificate of merit for modernization of the library of DAV, Chitra Gupta Road, New Delhi. He had also visited the libraries of Singapore and Bhutan. He is a life member of Indian Library Association and Delhi Library Association. He has also attended several national and International conferences and has also co-chaired the sessions in international symposia.

Mr Satvir Singh Khasa (born on 10th June 1953 in village Baroda, District Sonipat, Haryana) did MA (Sociology) in 1986 from University of Rajasthan. Did Certificate course in Library Science in 1971 from the School of Library Science run by Delhi Library association. Also did Post-Graduate Diploma in Library Science in 1975 from the same institution. He passed B Lib Sc in 1991 from IGNOU. He Joined Jawaharlal Nehru University Library in 1975 as Semi-Professional Assistant. Currently he is working as Assistant Librarian in Jawaharlal Nehru University Library, New Delhi.

Mrs. Shashi Bala Anand (born on 12th June 1952) did

MA (History), M.A.(History) from Meerut University in

1980, C Lib Sc from Jiwaji University Gwalior in 1969,

Post-Graduate Diploma in Library Science from Delhi

Library association in 1982, B Lib Sc from Jamia Millia

Islamia University, New Delhi in 1986. She has had

training in Computer, internet, Information

Management, Graphics, web designing, Bibliographical

format etc. She worked as librarian in Bureau of

Economic & Statistics, Old Secretariat Delhi from 1st

January 1975 to 9th June 1977. She joined Nehru Memorial Museum and Library on 10th June 1977 as

Junior Library Assistant and retired as Assistant Library and Information Officer after reaching the age

of superannuation. She has participated in the compilation of

Ms Sudha Saxena (born on 4th May 1952)

did MA (Sociology) from Rajasthan University

in 1978. She did Certificate Course in Library

Science in 1975 with First Division and Post-

Graduate Diploma in Library Science with

First Division and Second Position from Delhi

Library Association in 1978-79. She did BLISC

in 1988 from Madras University and MLISC in

1998 from Indira Gandhi National Open

University, New Delhi. She worked in

Maitreyi College Library (University of Delhi)

from October 1976 to November 1977. Thereafter she worked in Blue Bells School, Greater Kailash, New

Delhi as its Librarian from February 1978 to October 1979. She joined National Institute of Public

Finance & Policy, New Delhi in November 1979 and retired in May 2012 as Assistant Library and

Information Officer. She was on deputation In National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child

Development In Documentation Information Centre from November 1984 to 7th December 1986. Also

provided Voluntary Services in Educational Institutions in Namibia (South West Africa).

Mr Tara Chand Jain (born on 15 March 1936 in Delhi) did his B Sc from Delhi University in 1956. He earned C.Lib.Sc. from School of Library Science Delhi Library Association in the year 1957. Dip Lib Sc in 1959 and M Lib Sc in 1963 from Delhi University. He began his professional career from P.G.D.A.V College, Delhi as Librarian in 1959-60. He was Assistant Librarian Panjab University, Chandigarh during 1960-63; Assistant Librarian, Punjab Agriculture University, Hissar Campus in 1964-65; Deputy Librarian, Punjab Agriculture University, Hissar Campus in 1965-69; University

Librarian, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur-1969-73; Head, Library and Documentation Services ICRISAT in 1973-78; Head, Information System and Services, Constellate Consultants (P) Ltd, New Delhi 1978-80; Chief Development Officer, Agricole Publishing Academy, New Delhi 1980. DLA is proud of his achievements.

Mr Viond Kumar Vijan was born on 1st August 1948

at Delhi. He did MA (Pol Sc) from Meerut University

in 1972, LL B from Delhi University in 1978, C Lib Sc &

PG Dip in Library Science in 1972-73 from Delhi

Library Association. He passed B Lib Sc from Jamia

Milia Islamia in 1990.

He started his professional career in library science

by joining Bal Bhawan and National Children`s

Museum, New Delhi as Librarian. He was there from July 1969 to February 1971. Thereafter he shifted

to Directorate of Education as Librarian in NCT of Delhi on 1st March 1971. He remained there till his

retirement on 31 July 2008. In all he served library profession as Librarian for 39 years.

He is Life Member of DLA, ILA, IIPA, National Society for Prevention of Blindness. He is closely associated

with the activities of DLA ever since he joined its Executive Committee in the year 1972 as PRO.

Currently, he is member in the present Executive and assigned the job of Member of Administrative

Committee.
