Definition

• Teaching resources: refer to books, any person, animals, or any object, that make teaching and learning easier, clearer and more interesting (Baker and Westrup, 2000:115)

New form of literacy• What is the new form of literacy?

The new form of literacy, beyond text and image, is one of information navigation. Brown (2002) points out that this is the ability to be ‘your own personal reference librarian – to know how to navigate through confusing, complex information spaces and feel comfortable doing so’.

What is the new form of literacy?: the ability to surf the net and find the information needed.

Task 1 1) list possible resources you would like to use in most of your teaching2) Design the first lesson of a new term by listing possible resources you would like to use and illustrate the reason of choosing them.

How to create you own resources for language teaching?

• Create your own file of pictures and cards

• Use your own creativity and imagination to provide a better learning environment for the students

• Make your students an important resources

• Use the internet resources

Task 2

• Pair work: There are many more resources we can explore in the classroom. They are not easily observable and they are hidden somewhere. Work in pairs and try to think of any other resources that we can make use of when teaching. Please note that we do not necessarily need to spend money to buy them.

Review the following ten useful teaching resources and design an episode to illustrate how you use these resources appropriately.
