FALL FEST 2017 by Ela, Nina, Abigail and Sunny -room 9

Fall Fest was fun! There was dancing in the gym and there was a DJ playing music. The lights were off and there was a cool disco ball. Everybody was dancing with their glow sticks. There were also many Raffle Baskets to be won. You could buy treats like cookies and cupcakes. In Room 18 there were crafts and you could make things like skeletons. Everybody had so much fun! Fall Fest is the best! Young Women on the Move Trip by Georgia, Aliza & Sienna rm 18 On October 17th, Mrs. Hodge took four girls from Grade 5 to the Monte Cassino Event Centre to attend a workshop to celebrate the International Day of the Girl. The theme was girls can do anything! There were so many schools and girls all in one room. We had a great time. The keynote speaker was Unstoppable Tracy. She was a paralympic sailor and skier, who was born with no limbs. She told us her story, and how she was very determined to become an athlete. We were very lucky as we got to meet and take a picture with her that day too. They had lots of fun activities planned for us. We wrote down our personal goals, played games, and we had an impossible paper folding challenge….which helped us learn about growth mindset! Our chant was unstoppable me, unstoppable you, unstoppable us!

Principal’s Message .

Our Fall Fest on October 27th was a HUGE success! The school was packed with costumed students and their families. The gym was alive with super-heroes, princesses, ninjas and even Elvis rocking to the DJ’s cool music.

We want to thank everyone for the very generous basket donations and for your participation in this important fundraising event. The monies raised at the Fall Fest provide a number of very important activities for the children, such as Scientist in the Schools, The Forest of Reading, RAZ kids in the primary grades, the Greg LeRoc concert for the junior grades, field trips and so much more.

Remembrance Day is on a Saturday this year. We will recognize Remembrance Day on Friday, November 10th after morning recess at approximately 10:15 am. Families and community members are welcome to join us!

In the evening of Thursday, November 16th and the morning of Friday, November 17th we will be hosting Parent-Teacher Interviews. We hope that you will be able to meet with your child’s teacher at this time to discuss his/her progress and set goals for the next few months. If you are unable to attend during this time, please call your child’s teacher to arrange a telephone interview or an alternate time to meet.

The Girls Soccer Season by Anja rm 19 The girls soccer season was better this year than last year. In the first tournament at Tumpane Public School, we played 3 games and we won all of them. The first game was against Calico Public School and we won 1-0. The second game we also won 1-0. In the last game we got the highest score, 3-0 against H.J Alexander. We went on to the conference finals at Hollycrest Middle School. We won our first game against Braeburn 1-0, and lost our second game against Millwood 2-0. We ended up being Conference finalists and got a new blue banner. We had a great time this year during this season. The Halloween Parade by Crystal, Liam, Mya and Stella rm 9

The Halloween parade was once again an eventful parade. The students and staff that participated had a ton of fun. On October 31st around 1:00 pm the students and staff came out the doors with very cool costumes. As the parents and grandparents waited with excitement to see the students and staff’s interesting and awesome costumes, the cute kindergarten students led the parade. We saw many super heroes, princesses, police officers and other community helpers. We even saw some unique costumes such as bubble tea, sumo wrestler, and scream was a popular costume among the grade 5 boys. Parents took pictures as we walked around the school. Teachers got creative with their costumes. The grade 1 teachers made a team costume as a rock, paper and scissor. The grade 2 teachers were salt and pepper. There was also a teacher dressed as a timbit and other cool costumes worn by the staff. We even saw Santa and Ms.Claus! They must have come early to see if we are being naughty or nice! Oh! Is this all fake news? We have to ask Ms. Beischlag who was dressed as fake news. It was nice to have the school community to celebrate Halloween at the parade. We can’t wait until next year!!
