ARAB TIMES, SUNDAY, MAY 1, 2016 26 KUWAIT CITY, April 30: On Tuesday 26th April, Kuwait English School celebrated the many achievements of its senior school students at the Arraya Ballroom in the Courtyard Marriot Hotel. The evening was an opportunity to recognise the amazing accomplishments made by our senior school students. In an event that celebrated the successful teaching and learning at Kuwait English School, students, teacher, senior man- agement and special guests had the op- portunity to join together in celebration. The welcome address by Madam Naela Al Saddah, School Vice-Chair- man, thanked the students and school staff for their “support” and “ongoing effort”. Madam Naela then presented the proud students of Years 7, 8 and 9 with their subject prizes. Mrs Janet Carew, senior school prin- cipal, then addressed the audience. She congratulated the students for having “succeeded in becoming their best”. She highlighted that the students had met the school vision which is to inspire, chal- lenge and encourage and that “Kuwait English School was preparing students to be able to cope with the challenges ahead”. In her closing remarks, Mrs Carew thanked parents and teachers by noting that “education is a three-way operation between parents, teacher and students” and that the students should “make this a stepping stone to further success”. Foundations Guest speaker, Mrs Hosnia Al Hashem, Vice-President of Kufpec (Kuwait foreign petroleum explora- tion company) told the students that Kuwait English School was “giving them the foundations to make the most of their life” and that since 1979 it had “guided education of several genera- tions”. Mrs Al Hashem then presented subject prizes to Years 10, 11;1-2 and 13 students. Mrs Rhoda Elizabeth Muhmood, School Director, then addresses the audience by telling the students that they have “well surpassed my hopes and dreams” and that “each one of you makes a special contribution to Kuwait English School”. Presentations of special prizes were then made to students who had been recognised as being outstanding in 3 or more subjects. Sabiq Uddin Jawad and Mariam El Ghobary of Year 7, Fathima Yousra Sifar and Sarah Abdel Gawad of Year 9, Marwan Mohamed of Year 10, Lana Husain Khan and Liana Rashid of Year 11 and Jennifer Daruwalla of Year 13 were all recognised for their superb achievements this year. A special men- tion was for Naser Al Jemaz, Year 10, who won the silver prize at a recent sci- entific invention competition in Geneva, Switzerland. Naser’s design to make carbon based plastic, was recognised amongst 1000 competitors from 40 dif- ferent countries. A huge congratulations must go to Naser in this accomplish- ment and we wish him all the best for his future.
