WORTHY OF NOTE: The shawl begins with a garter tab cast on, then is worked from the neck outward in a half-circle shape. Once complete, the body stitches are left live on the needles to work the knit-on lace border.

CABLE CAST-ON: Cast-on the stitches to work the lace border as follows: place right hand needle inbetween last two sts on left hand needle, wrap yarn as if to knit and draw yarn through, completing stitch. Slip new stitch onto left hand needle (one stitch cast-on); rep from * until you have the required number (in this case, 17) of newly cast-on sts. Note: the first stitch will be created by inserting the needle inbetweenthe last two stitches of the body.

DIRECTIONS:GARTER TAB CAST ON: CO 2 sts. Knit 6 rows. Row 7 (RS, pick-up): K2, rotate work 90°, p/u and knit 3 sts in garter bumps on side, rotate work 90° k2 from CO edge – 7 sts.

BODY:Row 1 (RS, Inc): K2, K1f+b, K1f+b, K3 – 9 sts. Row 2 (WS): Knit all sts. Row 3 (Inc): K2, *k1f+b; rep from * to 3 sts rem, k3 - 13 sts. Knit 3 rows. Row 7 (Inc): K3, *K1f+b; rep from * to 4 sts rem, k4 - 19 sts. Knit 5 rows. Row 13 (Inc): K3, *k1f+b; rep from * to 4 sts rem, k4 – 31 sts. Knit 11 rows. Row 25 (Inc): K4, *k1f+b; rep from * to 4 sts rem, k4 – 54 sts. Knit 25 rows. Row 51 (Inc): K3, *k1f+b; rep from * to 4 sts rem, k4 – 101 sts. Knit 25 rows.
