Worship & Consultation Report

Sunday, October 11, 10:30 am

On this Sunday we will have one worship service at 10:30 am. Ken

Willard will preach the message that morning. Immediately following

worship, the Consultation team will present their written prescriptions

for our church. Everyone will receive a copy of the report.

After we have received the report, we will have 3 town hall

meetings—October 18 at 4:00 p.m., October 25 at 6:00 p.m. and

November 4 at 7:30 p.m—over the next month to process the

prescriptions. Then at a Church Conference scheduled for November

8th at 3:00 pm, we will vote to accept (or reject) those prescriptions.

F.A.Q.s about Healthy Church Initiative (HCI)

What is the purpose of HCI? The purpose of HCI is to help transform

churches into fruitful congregations so that they can reach new people for

Christ and help them become the church God wants them to be in their

community.

Why are we participating in HCI? The Administrative Board voted to be

a part of the HCI process to help us grow as a church. FUMC Canyon is a

vibrant church in our community, but this process is an excellent resource

for us to get an outsider perspective on how we can be even more

effective for Christ.

How will the consultation team come up with the “prescriptions” that

they think are best for us? The church has sent the consultation team a

vast array of data on our church - its history, demographics of the

community, our ministries, financials, staffing, attendance, membership,

etc. - that they will use as the basis of the study. Further, they will be (1)

interviewing individual leaders of the church, (2) leading a focus group of

members, (3)meeting with the Administrative Board, (4) meeting with the

pastor and his family, (5) leading an all-church leadership workshop and

(6) gathering data from mystery worshippers who have been coming to

our church throughout the summer to create final “prescriptions” for our

church as we move forward.

How will we decide if we will accept the prescriptions? We will vote on

the prescriptions at a Church Conference on November 8th at 3:00 pm. All

members present at that meeting can vote. We will vote to accept all of

them or none of them.

How can I help? We want everyone to be praying for our church and this

process - that God will bless it and the decisions that we make from it. We

have a prayer team that is specifically praying for the process and hope

you will join them and our church staff as we pray for God’s discernment.

First Annual FUMC Tailgate Party / Cooking

Competition

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone

who planned, helped, and participated in the 2015

Tailgate Party. This event could not have been more of

a success. We had eleven amazing teams compete in

the tailgate cooking competition this year. If you

attended the event you enjoyed everything from steak

bites to ramen noodle crusted corn dogs.

CONGRATULATIONS to Life Search Sunday

school class for being the first group to win our tailgate

cooking challenge.

Everyone who attended also had the

opportunity to enjoy a great time of fellowship and fun.

Our planning team had 19th street set up with a dunk

tank, ping pong, giant checkers, and much more. But

most importantly our church raised over $1,200 to

support the great teachers and staff at the Canyon

Intermediate School. Your generous donations will

enable FUMC to bless and support Canyon

Intermediate School throughout the year. Again

THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this event

such a success!
