the DG in writing
a) Within ONE month of its generation, for waste generated after
the coming into force of these Regulations;
b) Within THREE months from the date of coming into force ofthese regulations, for waste generated before the date of
coming into force of these regulations.
(2) Every waste generator shall immediately notify the DG of
new categories and quantities of waste which are or which
may be generated as a result of any alteration in theoperation carried on at the plant used by the waste
generator.

Waste reduction
Source Reduction and Waste Minimization
The best means to get rid of waste is to reducethe amount generated at the source
Two concepts are recommended:
The production of waste results in both loss ofenergy from the production process and loss of
valuable resources; and
Once the waste is produced, money, manpower,
and additional materials must be spent tomanage the waste

Responsibility of waste generator
7. Every waste generator shall ensurethat scheduled wastes generated by
him properly stored, treated on-site
or delivered to and received at
prescribed premises for treatment or
disposal.

8.(1)Scheduled wastes shall be stored in containerswhich are durable and which are able to preventspillage or leakage of the scheduled wastes intothe environment.
(2)Containers of scheduled wastes shall be clearlylabeled in accordance with the Third Schedule foridentification and warning purposes.
(3)Incompatible scheduled wastes shall be stored in
separate containers.(4)Areas for the storage of the containers shall be
designed , constructed and maintainedadequately to prevent spillage or leakage ofscheduled wastes into the environment.
