with a 3-pointer and extended the Wildcats’ lead to as many as 23, 39-16, in the opening period with another long-range jumper. Belford, who led all players at the break with 12 points, scored on a left-handed layup just before the buzzer to give Davidson a 43-23 advantage at the half.• In addition to a 38-27 margin on the glass, Davidson finished with 52 points in the paint and turned 17 Campbell miscues into 25 points at the other end.

Series Notes• North Carolina has won four straight and leads the all-time series 62-11.• Separated by just 130 miles, the Wildcats and Tar Heels have only met twice since the 2007-08 season.• North Carolina and Davidson met in the 1968 and 1969 NCAA Tournament East Regional Finals, with the Tar Heels edging the Wildcats in both contests.• The Wildcats are 1-5 against the Tar Heels under Bob McKillop.

Last Meeting• Despite a career-high 33 points, including seven treys from Brian Sullivan, Davidson fell to No. 14/18 North Carolina, 97-85, in overtime on Dec. 21, 2013 at the Dean Smith Center.• The Tar Heels, who outscored Davidson (4-8) 18-6 in the extra session, went 11-of-12 from the free throw line in the frame to finish the contest 34-of-47 (.723).• Trailing 60-53, the Wildcats outscored UNC 16-9 over the next five minutes, 40 seconds to tie the contest, 69-69 with 5:11 to play. The two teams then traded buckets and the lead several more times before Sullivan banked in his final 3-pointer to put his club back in front, 76-74, with 2:09 left in regulation.• Following a pair of Marcus Paige free throws,

which tied the game 79-79 with 29 seconds to go, Davidson had a chance to win it at the end of regulation, but Sullivan’s 3-point attempt came up short.• In addition to knocking down seven of the Wildcats’ nine 3-pointers, Sullivan went 11-of-21 from floor in a personal-best 44 minutes. Fellow sophomore Jordan Barham contributed his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Davidson, while De’Mon Brooks in his first game back from injury and Tyler Kalinoski scored 13 and 10, respectively.• J.P. Tokoto paced five Tar Heels in double figures with 22 points to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds, five steals and four blocks. James Michael McAdoo added 19 points, Paige scored 11 of his 17 points in overtime, while Kennedy Meeks finished with 13 off the bench and Nate Britt had 11.• After North Carolina (8-3) used a 15-3 run midway through the opening half to go up, 31-22, Davidson closed the half on a run of its own capped off by consecutive Barham buckets to cut the deficit to 38-35 at the break.• The Wildcats shot 50 percent in both halves, but were just 2-of-10 in overtime to finish the game at 45.6 percent (31-68).• Sparked by back-to-back treys from Sullivan and Kalinoski, Davidson opened the second half on a 14-6 streak and went ahead 49-44 on a Brooks’ 3-point play at the 15:37 mark. The Tar Heels responded with another lengthy spurt to retake the lead and go back up by seven, 60-53.

Local Product Signs During Early Period• KiShawn Pritchett of nearby Lake Norman High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Wildcats in 2015-16.• A 6-6, 220 guard from Mooresville, N.C., Pritchett averaged 17.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game, while leading LNHS to a 28-2 record and berth in the

Bob McKillop is in his 26th season as the head coach of the Davidson Wildcats.

The 2007-08 NABC National Coach of the Year led Davidson to the 2008 NCAA Tourna-ment Midwest Regional Championship game with victories over Gonzaga, Georgetown and Wisconsin. The Wildcats’ unbelievable run end-ed with a two-point loss to eventual champion Kansas, and Davidson finished the campaign with a final ranking of ninth in the ESPN/USA Today Poll.

To go along with tying the school’s sin-gle-season record for wins with 29, McKillop and the Wildcats strung together 25 consecutive victories, the longest streak in the nation, before falling to the Jayhawks on the doorstep of the Final Four.

Five of the last eight campaigns have seen the Wildcats collect 25 or more victories, including a 25-8 mark in 2011-12 and 26-8 record in 2012-13.

The Wildcats’ 2014 NIT Tournament appear-ance marked their fifth under McKillop and the 13th time in his tenure he has led Davidson to a postseason berth — the NCAA Tournament in 1998, 2002, 2006-08, 2012, 2013 and the NIT in 1994, 1996, 2005, 2009 and 2014. McKil-lop-coached teams have now reached the 20-win plateau 12 times, and six have won 25 or more games.

The nine-time SoCon Coach of the Year has won more games in Davidson and league his-tory than any other coach thanks to an all-time mark of 474-292. Entering the 2014-15 campaign, his victory total ranked 29th on the NCAA’s list of Division I winningest active coaches. McK-illop also ranks seventh among active coaches on the NCAA’s list of most seasons with their current school and is one of six on that list who has spent their entire careers at that school.

McKillop’s teams have been successful off the court as well. He has had a perfect Academ-ic Progress Rate of 1,000 each year since the NCAA began tracking it in 2003, and all 88 of his seniors have graduated.

During his 21 years coaching against SoCon competition, he has guided the Wildcats to at least 10 wins in conference play 20 times.

The Wildcats went undefeated in the SoCon with a 20-0 record in 2007-08, the third time Davidson accomplished the feat under McKillop (14-0, 1995-96; 16-0, 2004-05). Davidson had a 43-game conference win streak from 2007-09. It was one away from tying the SoCon record and the eighth longest in college basketball history.

A 1972 graduate of Hofstra, McKillop has guided the Wildcats to 13 SoCon divisional titles, including 10 of the last 13.

Thirty-nine of his players have gone on to play professionally, including Stephen Curry, the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA draft, who finished second in the 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year voting.

An inductee into the Hofstra Basketball Hall of Fame, McKillop was signed and then cut by the Philadelphia 76ers before beginning his coaching career at Holy Trinity HS.

A native of Queens, N.Y., McKillop and his wife Cathy have three children — Kerrin, a 2002 Davidson graduate, Matt, a member of the 2006 NCAA Tournament team and 2006 graduate, and Brendan, a member of the 2008 Elite Eight team and a 2011 graduate. The McKillop’s have two granddaughters, Maggie and Claire.
