Introduction

1. The DMS Schedule of Courses for Training Year (TY) 19/20 should be read in conjunction with single Service regulations regarding thegeneral administration of training.

General2. Information regarding particular courses is available from the single Service Customer Agents or via Training Delivery Units (TDUs).

3. The Schedule of Courses has been produced following the Statement of Trained Requirement / Task (SOTR/SOTT) process carried out withthe single Service Customer Agents, the Training Providers and Training Plans & Support Division (TP & SD).

4. The Schedule includes:

a. Courses delivered by Defence Medical Academy (DMAcad) at TDUs. More information about courses located at Birmingham City University can be found at: www.bcu.ac.uk/defence-healthcare-education.

b. Scheduled external courses as agreed in the SOTT.

Courses6. It should be noted that:

a. Matters concerning policy or Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enquiries or course design should be addressed through the single Service manning authorities or single Service Customer Agents. Units or course loaders are strongly advised to check if an application for Enhanced or standard DBS is required for attendance at a DMAcad Course.

b. The maximum number of students on each course cannot be exceeded without approval from higher authority. Any requirement to increase the agreed loading should be formally addressed to TP & SD via the relevant single Service Customer Agent. In the event of a course being over-subscribed, the single Service Customer Agent will be responsible for deciding the priorities. The minimum loading detailed is set to reflect various academic and practical requirements. In addition, DMAcad and it's customers have agreed a Performance target of 95% loading for all courses.

c. Requests for courses in addition to this Schedule should be forwarded to the relevant single Service Customer Agent for staffing. Training resources are at a premium and priority will be given to support Operational commitments.

d. Applications from Reserves should be submitted by the 12-week point prior to the course commencing. At the 12-week point, Reserve personnel will be notified whether their application has been successful or not via email. Unsuccessful applications will automatically join the list of all applications received after the 12-week point. These will be considered along with all other bids, with places allocated 6 weeks prior to the course commencing.

7. Individual application forms for courses are at Annex A. One application form should be used for each course applied for.Additionally, the definition of Bidding Categories is at Annex B and the Army prioritisation matrix for Army Courses run at DMAcad is at Annex C.

8. When applying for courses individuals/units are requested to:

a. Forward individual application forms/nominal rolls to the lead TDU unless indicated otherwise by the bidding category or notes.

b. Application forms are to include Official Number, Rank / Rate / Title, Surname and Initials and Parent Unit. The gender of the candidate is to be included to ensure accommodation is available. Application forms are to be forwarded to the Crse Applications Gp Mailbox, no later than 6 weeks prior to course commencement.

c. If applicable, for Army Courses apply the appropriate Priority Category to the application (using the process at Annex C).

d. Provide a short justification statement on the Application Form; this will aid in prioritising placements on heavily subscribed courses. Specify any Operational Taskings, Postings, Real Life Support tasks as evidence.

e. For courses where personnel are nominated by single Service Manning Authorities (Category A) nominal rolls are to be forwarded to the relevant TDU, no later than 6 weeks prior to course commencement.

f. Routine name changes can be undertaken up to 3 weeks prior to the commencement of the course urgent operational requirements /late applications/ names changes after this deadline will be considered on a case-by-case basis. all cancellations must be made at the earliest opportunity; all no-shows will be investigated.

Joining Instructions

9. Joining Instructions will be dispatched to Parent Units no later than 4 weeks prior to the start of the course.

Pay / Pay As You Dine (PAYD) / Joint Personnel Administration (JPA) Allowances and Travelling Expenses

10. Students on short courses should make adequate financial arrangements prior to course commencement with their parent unit. Allstudents need to be aware that training will be delivered on sites that are PAYD sites and therefore students need to make the necessary financialarrangements to be able to pay for their meals for the duration of the course or to be able to claim it back if their unit is not yet on PAYD. All TDUsafford students full access to JPA facilities.

Leave

11. Leave will not be granted and travel warrants will not be issued other than for Phase 2 students. All personnel are to be on duty for theduration of the course. Course places will not be offered to individuals during extended periods of leave e.g. maternity, sick leave.

Dress, Clothing and Equipment

12. Requirements will be specified in individual Joining Instructions.

Accommodation

14. a. Some short courses are delivered in Birmingham with accommodation provided at local hotels, as detailed within the individual Joining Instructions. Units will be liable for hotel charges if their personnel who have been selected to attend courses cancel with 14 days of the course start date or fail to attend. The cancellation policy is detailed in the individual Joining Instructions.

b. The availability of Service accommodation at other training delivery locations is at a premium and students may be required to arrange their own accommodation. Where living-in is an essential element of the training package i.e. Phase 2 training, CLM courses, accommodation will be arranged and allocated on arrival. Full details of accommodation provision will be detailed in the individual Joining Instructions.

Medical Downgrading

15. In cases regarding medical downgrading (e.g. pregnancy), attendance on courses should take into consideration the functional restrictionsdetailed in current regulations. A risk assessment will be carried out by the chain of command/course provider for all internally delivered trainingand the decision whether to allow commencement or continuation of training will need to take into account the wishes of the individual, physicaldemands of the course and any health and safety regulations pertinent to the case. Training undertaken by an individual will be determined on acase-by-case basis by the course provider with details of any training deficiency communicated to the relevant sS on completion of the course.Additional information on the physical demands of specific courses can be found in the Course Notes.

A Ships / Units are not to bid. Nominations will be made by single-ServiceManning Authorities or Customer Agents.

B Individuals/Units are to bid direct to the relevant TDU Course Admin Cell or asindicated in the notes.

When completing the ‘Priority Category Claimed’ section of the Course Application Form - DMSTC, theappropriate number or numbers should be circled. The priorities to be used are listed in the table below.

Priority Reasons for Vacancy Requirements

1 A specific operational requirement [Justify in Para 4 of application form]

2A To qualify an Officer or Soldier due to be Posted to an Instructor Appointment atan Army Initial Training Unit (AITU)

2B Urgent need as there is no qualified person in the Unit

3 To qualify an Officer or Soldier due to be Posted as an Instructor appointment ata school or Training Unit (Other than an AITU)

4 For employment upgrading or to qualify a Soldier for promotion

5 To maintain Unit team of course trained personnel

3013 - CombatMedicalTechnicianClass (CMT) 1

1. The course is open to RAMC Combat Medical Technicians class 2 (CMT2) and CombatMedical Technicians Class 2 Reserves (CMT 2R),selected for operations (worldwide)having passed the EAT and completed the L3 apprenticeship (Regulars only)

2. Students are to complete the Online Revision Package and the Entry Assessment Test(EAT) at least 6 weeks prior to the Course start date (in line with DMS loading policy). NoEAT at 6 weeks - no loading. The test can be accessed through DCHET i-site or contactTraining Standards Department at DMS Whittington on 94422 ext 5164/5168/5169.

3. Personnel who are pregnant are not eligible to attend this course due to its arduousnature. There is no restriction on the Joint Medical Employment Standard (JMES)eligibility for this Course providing that an individual is able to safely undertake all practicalactivities. Units should be aware that the final confirmatory field exercise is arduous andfull participation is mandatory. Unless the individual can safely participate in the exercisethey MUST NOT be sent on the Course and will be RTU’d on arrival. Units or MedicalOfficers should contact the following personnel if unsure of an individual’s suitability: OCPhase 3 94422 ext 5184 or Army SSI ext 5208 or Course Manager ext 5179/5206.

4. Provided CMT 2s have completed their L3 Apprenticeship, they can attend the CMT 1course. The prerequisite of waiting 12 months after completing CMT2 course no longerapplies.

5. Should applicants fail the CMT 1 course, they must wait 6 months and re-sit the EATbefore reapplying.

6. CMTs that have attended the Defence Medic Course can apply to attend the Module 2of the CMT1 course to gain their Instructor Qualifications. Defence Medics will be loadedbehind CMT2s who require the full course.

1. The course is open to RAMC Combat Medical Technicians class 2 (CMT2) and CombatMedical Technicians Class 2 Reserves (CMT 2R),selected for operations (worldwide)having passed the EAT and completed the L3 apprenticeship (Regulars only)

2. Students are to complete the Online Revision Package and the Entry Assessment Test(EAT) at least 6 weeks prior to the Course start date (in line with DMS loading policy). NoEAT at 6 weeks - no loading. The test can be accessed through DCHET i-site or contactTraining Standards Department at DMS Whittington on 94422 ext 5164/5168/5169.

3. Personnel who are pregnant are not eligible to attend this course due to its arduousnature. There is no restriction on the Joint Medical Employment Standard (JMES)eligibility for this Course providing that an individual is able to safely undertake all practicalactivities. Units should be aware that the final confirmatory field exercise is arduous andfull participation is mandatory. Unless the individual can safely participate in the exercisethey MUST NOT be sent on the Course and will be RTU’d on arrival. 4. Provided CMT 2s have completed their L3 Apprenticeship, they can attend the CMT 1course. The prerequisite of waiting 12 months after completing CMT2 course no longerapplies.

5. Should applicants fail the CMT 1 course, they must wait 6 months and re-sit the EATbefore reapplying.

6. CMTs that have attended the Defence Medic Course can apply to attend the Module 2of the CMT1 course to gain their Instructor Qualifications. Defence Medics will be loadedbehind CMT2s who require the full course.
