Team Lihir pose with George during Xmas BBQ at the back of KGH...20/12/08

George Ulka, an orphan from Irugl Care Center, will be doing his grade 12 next year in Rosary Secondary School. Team Lihir earlier this year donated K300 towards George’s school expenses and it was a joyful moment for George to meet the boys from Lihir Island. The meeting & greeting, chatting, smiling set a peaceful tone for one to feel the sweetness of the bondage of brotherhood. At the Xmas Ball Simbus donated K593 for his 2009 school fee. Those who pledged to help George: Jimmy Drekore (Team Lihir)— K100 Ambane Mondo (Team Ok Tedi)— K250 William Mond (Team Lihir)— K50 Iva Kola (Team POM)— K200 Lola Collins (Team QLD)—K100 (Paid) Margaret Nareso (Team POM)—K500 Tine Ningal (Team Europe)—K150 MM (Team POM)—K100 Anyone else who wish to help George, you are most welcome to do so. Please deposit into Rosary Secondary School a/c number 1000931133 and forward all receipts to Jimmy Drekore via email or SCF P O Box 3648 Boroko NCD.

Team Pose before heading to the Children’s Ward Girua & Jossie cut the Xmas cake

Steven (Porgera), Walter (Lihir), Joe (Simbu), Mrs Girua (Ok Tedi) serving the sick children. To see professionals taking time to come to the hospital to feed the sick children (right) is the most beautiful thing one can do. It was a colourful Christmas for the sick children in Kundiawa General Hospital.

On the 20th December SCF members and volunteers met at the back of KGH and started BBQ at 0800hrs. Jane Awi (Team Goroka), Jossie (Team Aussie), Cathy Karo (Team DWU) and other volunteers were busy at the kitchen while David Maima (Team Porgera), Jimmy Wesi (Team Lihir), Frank Gugl (Team Ok Tedi), Joe Gigmai (Team Simbu) and George Ulka were at the Barbie. We had fried sausages, ice cream with strawberry punch, salads, chocolate drinks, bread, assorted sweets and the Xmas cake (Top Right) that read, “Merry Christmas Children of Simbu well wishes from SCF 2008”

We headed to the children’s ward where Dr Wandi welcomed SCF members. On behalf of SCF Girua Tagu explained the purpose of our visit stressing that SCF was made of professional Simbus around the world to help the sick children. The BBQ was made possible by Simbus and friends pouring their hearts to make a joyful Christmas for the sick children. Girua & Josie did the cutting of the cake & food was distributed to every sick child in the hospital. Thanks Team UOG for the Barney’s play.

After we finished from the BBQ at the hospital we headed to Mt Wilhelm Hotel for the evening Ball. The various SCF Teams came in numbers: Team Ok Tedi, Team Lihir, Team Porgera, Team Mt Hagen, Team Kongo Coffee, Team Tolukuma, Team Kutubu and Team Goroka. The home Teams were also present in numbers: Team Mingende, the hospital Teams O&G and A&E, Honourable Joe Mek Teine’s family, Tokams’ family, Nopro’s family, Dr Aska & friends. The highlight table was SCF’s focus group which included patients and representatives from Irugl Care Center. The evening started with SCF Matron, Lady Kilage giving the opening address. The SCF President followed highlighting SCF achievements and stressing on certain areas of need. Two of Simbu’s notable leaders, Honourable Fr. John Garia and Honourable Joe Mek Teine took to the podium and shared their thoughts. All Teams were given stage time and Josephine Kilage on behalf of Team Australia presented donations to SCF. Dressed in little traditional attire, balancing his little crutches, 5 year old Ali Job (AJ) thanked Josephine and SCF members & volunteers on behalf of the sick children of Simbu. It was a moment of silence as hearts paused and tears fell freely when AJ’s little voice sailed into the cool night. It was also a fitting moment for SCF to officially launch her website that night. Thanks to Robert Weber in Brisbane for designing the website: www.simbuchildrenfoundation.org We then made a public appeal for George Ulka’s grade 12 school fee. The sight of seeing everyone coming forward and chipping in was totally overwhelming, Simbus have set a new course of direction to care for the education of an orphan. Simbu might be made of stones but surely the heart is unique and beautiful. We then proceeded to the event of the night, “The Auction”. One of the major sales of the night was the painting with the Xmas Ball Theme, “Nono gak pre kogun eramga” painted by our own artist, Gigmai Gigs. It was sold at K1650 and the successful bidder was Jerry Kapka from Kongo Coffee. The other item that went into the tug of war was the “SCF Team Lihir Bilum.” Eventually the bilum was sold at K1400. The night also came to life with one of Simbu’s favourite sons, Tom Lari

heating the room with his amazing voice. Auction of his CD and live performance earned K650 for SCF. Thanks to Tom Lari’s former student and Team Lihir’s front man Fabian Suna. Tom Lari also announced his resignation from teaching but as he puts it he hasn’t resigned from singing and will al-ways perform for SCF in future events. The night was a suc-cess with teams and individuals catching up with mates and cheering all the way till the sun peeped through Surikawal.

Team Melbourne - The team met on December 6 and nominated Elizabeth Kondaul as Team Melbourne Coordinator. They are Jackie Niblett, Donn Koleala, Elizabeth Kondaul and Alex Goiye & family. On the right is Jossie Kilage and the Team during her visit early Dec. Thank you for the donation of infant clothes. They’ve being distributed to the new born babies on the Xmas eve and the new years eve.

Team Western Australia - Team Coordinator, Ivan Mori tried to make it to the Xmas Ball but unfortunately didn’t make it due to Xmas congestion. The team contributed to buying a table at the Ball but was advised to buy a DVD player for the children instead. Team Newcastle - Dr John Tonar & family’s message to SCF at the Xmas Ball.

My small Simbu family and I here in New Castle wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2009 and a pros-perous SCF in the coming years. For the SCF Executives especially Jimmy & your hard-working executives, colleagues and highly active members, my big HUG to you all. As you will re-call my pledge to SCF last year with regard to ,” The Wish List” though, sometimes wishes don’t come true...may be Father Christmas is still strapping his belt in the North Pole...let me say this; a wish to a Simbu always come true....the difference is time...Simbus I know always persist and they get it. For this reason, SCF and Simbu children will be winners no matter how long it takes. For the members who are working hard for the good of our future Simbus, it is this very reason that oxygen & sun light is delivered to Simbu free of charge to keep the fire burning...so keep going!

For those who want to be Simbus, be an SCF first for goodness sake! Spread the news, something good...so good is happening right now so be in it. For those of us who are already in it, continue to support our Executives and team Leaders from various locations so One Simbu is not only a progressive promotion but a definitive goal for a better Simbu. For eg. Maintain our identities...I like names like Drekores, Waisimes, Yuri-copan-yal, Kerengas, Yopa Dala Nems, Kua-Duas etc compared to the Johnny Rutherfords & Barry Johnsons, or even Li Chin Lees. You may even call me Dr Tonar Kamasungua of Gor Tepe or Gor Nem the next time you see me around and decided to give me a hug.. Finally to our sick children, their parents, doctors, nursing staff in Kundiawa General Hospital, our long distance Get Well Wishes and Many blessings come your way. Congratulations SCF JT and Family: (Newcastle, NSW).

Jackie, Jossie, Liz Kondaul & Donn

PAINT WITH YOUR HEART is a view from the eyes of the heart. It tells us not to be too obsessed with material goods. The beauty of love is in the art of giving and that makes life worth living. You will appreciate the true meaning of love when you put smiles in the hearts of others hence to do that you must listen to your heart - Bush Poet

PAINT WITH YOUR HEART Bush Poet

Come fly with me to the endless skies

And let our hearts stretch for those innocent eyes Show the world below us

That our love is not behind bars To be slave to egos

But free as the immortal souls

Come fly with me to the endless skies And see the crystal sunset in their eyes

embrace the beauty of love For they are a special gift from above

Let the heart speak the language of angels And the earthly words lost in empty wells

Come fly with me to the endless skies

And test this challenge where no man dares to rise It comes with pain and strain

But why complain when there is brain For heaven didn’t paint us as an object

But breath us life to be subject

Come fly with me to the endless skies And let love set sail like the butterflies

We came with nothing And we will go with nothing Why become slave to egos

When you have immortal souls

Life is like a beautiful art Paint with your heart

! "!#$ March 28th to April 3rd 2009 I’m planning for a rural visit in March. This is going to be an exploration trip starting from Salt Nomane. It will be all on foot, a 7 days walk back to Kundiawa. The purpose of this rural visit is to sleep and eat with the people in the various villages and assess situations faced by those in the remote areas. It will also be a rewarding time to capture all the beautiful scenery along the whagi gorge and the various mountain peaks. Anyone who is interested in joining me on this 7 days walk, be prepared, it’s going to be ugly, it’s going to be mean, it’s risky and your muscles will be begging so if you think you have the stamina then let me know. By the way I’ve never being there so you don’t wanna join a first timer. Out of the toughest always comes the sweetness…..that is if you survive...it’s PNG’s rugged terrain so don’t bother if you have a faint heart. Jimmy Drex
