The Story

The Story spins around Bob Arctor, a junkie

and undercover police agent who becomes

hooked up with Substance D.

Arctor becomes mind spitted as a

consequence of his drug addiction and creates

his police side, Frank.

Arctor becomes an empty shell by the end

of the movie like his friend Charles Freck.



The Addiction

Highly addictive drug named Substance D.

Delusion and Split Brain phenomena.

Strong syndrome of abstinence symptoms. Multiple personality disorder.

Compulsive thoughts of persecution.

Causes

One of the principal causes of Arctors

addiction is his job as undercover police agent

(Environment Factor).

Arctor's dullness and loss of sense on his

previous life (Psychological & Social Factors).

Pressure from his supposed friends (Social

Pressure)



Characters

Bob Arctor/Fred: Main participant on the

story, denies having an addiction and tries toevade the question of the quantity of drugthat he takes. His addiction also affects hisrelationship with Donna, his girlfriend, whichends broken.

Fred :I saw death rising from the earth, fromthe ground itself, in one blue field.

[picks up a blue flower] A present for my friends... at Thanksgiving.



Donna Hawthorne: Girlfriend of BobArctor, addicted to cocaine, marihuana &

substance D is unable to tolerate physical

contact, which frustrates Arctor, also she is a

drug dealer and supplies arctor with drugs, by

the end of the movie it results that she was

undercovered too.

Donna: Just dripping, behind furniture. Littlespring flowers with blue in them might come

up first.



Ernie Luckman: Other of Arctors friendsevidently hooked up with cocaine, marihuana

substance D, among others he becomes

obsessed with the drug usage, he puts the

drug first and other things even himself apart.

He eventually looses touch with reality and

becomes paranoid too.

Luckman: What if they come in through theback door or the bathroom window like that

infamous Beatles song?



James Barris: One of Arctors friendsaddicted to substance D, he rationalizes his

addiction with world order and paranoid like

suppositions. By the end of the movie he

results to be the initial target that the policewas following by bugging Arctors place with

scanners.

Barris: Okay, okay! I mean jeez. Or as theGermans would say "leise" which translates to

"be cool". Just be cool.



Charles Freck: Last of Arctors friends, heexperiences isolation and relationship breakdownwith his friends due to his loss of control withsubstance D, turning him unstable, untrusting and

highly paranoid. He even tries to kill himself,failing and feeling even more pathetic.

Freck : [on the phone] I looked them up. They're

aphids. They're in my hair, on my skin, in my

lungs. And the pain, Barris, it's unreasonable.They're all over the place. Oh, they've completely gotten Millie too.



Consequences

Arctor becomes a fried shell and enters tothe rehab installation new path whichresults to plant the flower where the drug

comes from. Freck also goes to rehab and ends up with a

permanent psychosis.

Barris ends up in jail for hanging with somedangerous people

Luckman ends up alone and left to his luck onthe streets.



Hawthorne laments Arctors situation, anddecides to exit the organization, she

pretended to be a drug dealer in order to

prove that the rehab facility was the drug

producer for some political plot.
